In my opinion these are two different styles of baits.
Burts are more of a traditional jerk bait, I have found that they work best similar to a Suick but with a little snap at the end of the pull. That is what gives them the side action.
Squirko is more of a glide bait style jerk bait. I work these more with taps than pulls. The generally turn to the side like most other gliders using this method.

Location: mount prospect illinois | I will back Mark H. Burts are definately more of a pull bait than a squirko (which works with taps or snaps of the rod). The burt dives and moves to the sides while the squirko will zig zag or walk the dog more. |

Location: Neenah, WI | Try snaps and taps with the rod tip. Soft jerks will also work but make sure the bait doesn't pause to long after the glides occur.

Location: north central wisconsin | I also agree that the Squirko is more of a glide bait, but it does respond well to a long pull(quick one) or two during the retreive to mix things up. One thing I've noticed, is that some squirkos want to work better towards the surface with the rod snaps, and some need to be pulled once in awhile to keep a good cadence. |

Location: Montgomery,Illinois | i finally got my squirko working. it takes some hard snaps i guess i will nee another new rod so it will be easier to use. The burts are a ton easier to use and i agree with all the above that the burt is a pull bait.
