Posts: 470 | Hey all, Working on getting a Pair of prescription (progressive) sunglasses. I've decided on Costa with Green Mirror (amber). Just trying to decide on what style frame and Glass or Poly. What do you have and how have they performed for you? Also, Any tips on where to get 'em cheap would be appreciated... Good Luck, I know.. Any input appreciated, RandalB

Posts: 8842 | Hi Randall None of ours are prescription, but here's what we have and my observations: - Green Mirror/Amber Base 400G lens - Fathoms: I use these as my main fishing glasses. 8 years on the pair I have now, no scratches, comfortable to wear all day - Blue Mirror/Grey Base 400G lens - Fathoms: Used for driving and saltwater fishing. 11 years on the pair I have now, one chip from dropping on pavement. - Green Mirror/Amber Base 580G lens - Fathoms: Samantha's main fishing glasses. No noticeable difference between the 400G and 580G lens as far as I can tell, except hers were $75 more than mine. - Amber Base 580P lens - Frame is??: These are Samantha's every day sunglasses. She likes them, and often wears them fishing. But the lenses are getting scratched up from being in her purse and around the car, etc. I'm in your boat - I need prescription lenses too. Been wearing contacts my whole life, but now I can no longer see anything up close - a progressive lens would be great so I can go back to tying knots without my arms extended like an idiot. Let me know what you find out - I need to do this same thing.

Posts: 99 | I would try to find a place where you can try on multiple frames as everyone's face is different. I have a pair that are 15 years old and I love them. But I found myself blocking out light with my hands to see better. Last year I bought a pair that completely blocks out light and I can see into the water much better with them.

Posts: 470 | Yeah, I get that 47. Just trying to narrow down my choices. They have dozens of styles available, not all of which I have access to. Also, are the prescription frames and non-prescription frames the same or different? The nearest prescription dealer is over 50 miles from me, so I'll probably have to buy them online. Hence my question. When Esox answered with his helpful post, I added Fathoms to the list of ones to check out. I'd never even looked at them before. That's Just the kind of input I'm looking for. So, what lens material did you get and how's it holding up for ya? RandalB

Posts: 59 Location: Fifield | I have Hammerhead with the 580g green mirror lenses. They are full size. If you have a skinny face they will be too large. They fit me excellent with very little gap between the frame edges and my cheeks. Similar in size to my oakley monster dogs. The glass lenses really take a beating without scratching and have even survived a bass jig at high speed.
