| Just purchased some new heavy 10' rods for my side rods. They are awesome, but the only drawback is the rear handle is extra long. Would love to cut 6" off. Have any of you guys ever cut down a rear length of a rod? I was going to cap it with new butt cap from Mudhole |

Location: Duluth, MN | Yes i cut down all of my rod ends. I actually reuse the end cap thats on the rod. Just cut it an inch in front of the end piece then you whittle a wooden dowel down to fit into the rod and the end cap and epoxy it.
I cut mine way down but the same applies no matter how much your looking to do.
There's a picture in this thread.

| Jim most of the rods we use don't have much taper in that section or any flex at all that deep in the blank so they should hold up fine to trimming. I don't see why it would affect anything as long as the section taken off is within reason. Personally I'd just get a new butt cap and re cap it with some epoxy. There are a lot of different methods to cutting a blank. Whichever one you choose if you decide to do it make sure you wear a mask don't breathe in that dust. |
