I’m thinking about adding a kicker to my 18’ aluminum deep v. I currently have a 70lb 24v powerdrive V2 I pilot that I use pretty much all of the time while casting for muskies or trolling for walleyes. My powerdrive will get the boat up to about 3.5mph but the 90hp idles around at about 5 mph. I haven't/don’t really troll for muskies much, but I’m thinking a kicker would be almost necessary if I wanted to. My question for you guys that have both, especially if you also troll bottom bouncers/cranks for walleyes too, is how much do you use your kicker compared to electric motor?

I use the bow mount for bottom bouncers & the kicker for crankbait's. My kicker does not get used nearly as much as my bow mount.

Just curious, what 90 hp motor do you have ?
My 150 Yamaha 4S idles at 2.4 mph on my Skeeter MX1825.
My last boat, a Ranger 618 tiller with 90 Suzuki idled at 1.8.

Its a 1998 johnson. It could be a little slower than that but it def doesn't get down around 2.5

You might be able to turn down your idle, 5 is really fast for idle speed. My 70hp Johnson on a 16 foot Lund idles around 2mph on flat water.

You should think about adding a trolling plate to your motor. I used to run a 17 foot lund with a 115 and got it to go very slow with the plate. For the very slow speeds I ran the terrova. I started out with a 9.9 kicker, but I hardly ever used it, so I sold it. The kicker also added alot of weight and caused the boat to lean causing a few problems for loading too.

Muskies can swim 38+ mph 5 mph isn't to fast. But my boat with a 250 and a 25 pitch prop idles at 3.3 mph. At 1.75:1 and 650rpm

Alright, thanks for the input guys. I'm guessing i can lower the idle a bit and/or look into the trolling plate.
