Posts: 410 Location: Waconia,MN | Getting my boat ready for the year i noticed a build up in the bottom of one of the battery trays. In then looked at the batteries and saw where some fluid may have run down the battery. Should i replace it?

Posts: 102 | No...just wait until opening day, launch the boat, then sit at the dock blocking the ramp while you see if it'll be enough juice left to start the boat. Don't mind all the people who made sure the boat was in good working order before opening day who are waiting patiently for you to move, you've got battery issues after all. Well, that's what I see on the southern WI lakes at least. Kidding aside - I'd top it off, charge it up, and see how she holds a charge. If readings are good, let her fly. If not good, replace her.

Posts: 1120 Location: West Chester, OH | Are you sure it leaked down the side & is not a cracked case? Had a car battery go that route last summer. Took it to be load tested & the shop found a hairline crack on the bottom of the case.

If it doesn't fizz when you sprinkle it on the liquid its not dangerous. If it fizzes, its electrolyte -> remove battey, + battery tray and then figure out solution...wash with lots of water. VRLA (valve-regulated, lead-acid) batteries should never leak! Good luck! Al

Posts: 291 Location: Madison, WI | Had this happen too after looking in battery compartment this winter. Had it hooked up to charger. Could liquid come out the top if it got over charged? If no crack will topping with distilled water be cool?

No, if it was overcharging the H2O component of the electrolyte boils off as oxygen & hydrogen..lowering the electrolyte levels..If the liquid is electrolyte, the battery case/jar has a crack or a pin hole in it... it will just keep leaking... Good luck! Al
