Posts: 339 Location: Lake County Illinois | I also heard ICAST . I am really hoping the Komodo 450 comes in a 5.1 or so gear ratio . I really like my Komodo 350 reels, they have been solid and super smooth for 3 seasons now.I needed a lower gear ratio for other applications so I went with the Citrix in a 5.4.1 which seems to be a really nice reel also, but not quite as nice as the komodo.Id really like to see the 350 and 450 Komodo in a 5.1 gear ratio,Im trying to find out for now if the citrix 5.4.1 gears can be put in a komodo as the komodo has stainless steel and the citrix brass gears I believe.I know a lot of people using the Komodo 350, and they all love it, but want another one in a lower gear for double 10s and harder pulling baits.I have talked to the Okuma rep several times about needing a lower gear ratio komodo and he agreed saying alot of customers at the shows were all asking for the same lower gearing. The Rep said this information has been passed along to the Okuma higher ups, since there was so many people asking for this.I personally think a Komodo 450 in a 5.1 gear would be Huge for Okuma and their reels used for musky fishing, especially after the Okuma ISIS was discontinued.Maybe CaliforniaMuskie , Mark Rogers can chime in.

Posts: 299 Location: Ontario, California | Everything you read above is correct.... We are in the final testing phases of the 450 size. ICAST in July it will be introduced and we should also have inventory around that time. Gear ratio's..... only the higher. Right now there are no plans for a lower gear ratio version but dependent upon the response... we will evaluate if there's more than just the Muskie market that will take a lower gear ratio version. The gear / gear box is massive.... the reel, even though it has a "tall" (high ratio) gear... it does have a lot of torque. Probably not enough to burn double 10's but definitely enough torque to comfortably fish them. I have used the reel since September and I have been pleased with the performance casting as well as comfort fishing baits up to 15 ounces that had drag coming through the water. As for the question on putting the Citrix 5.4 gear set in the Komodo... Yes, you can do that. You will need to change the main AND pinion gear since the cutting is different. If anyone is interested in doing this..... we will give you a discount on the parts. Just email me at [email protected] and I'll take care of you. I don't get on here much anymore so emailing me is best.
