I have searched and searched and have got so many different answers on this. I want to run Down Imaging up front on the trolling motor. How fast does the boat have to be moving for it to work correctly. This would be just when I am fishing with the tolling motor on structure or shorlines. I am guess that the boat is moving 1 to 2 mph or so. Would it be a waste to buy it for that speed?????

Thanks Brandon

If you can slow down how fast the screen scrolls across you can go slower. For my dash I have the screen at 5 and on the trolling sonar I have it at a three. I would say .6-.8 works really well at slower scream speeds. The reason why is if the screen is moving fast it will portray a image like a oil barrel in stead of a single strand of weed. And if the screen speed is two slow compared to boat speed a oil barrel will look like a strand of weed. Same for 2d sonar. On a new lake where I am driving around looking at the bottom at 6 mph I have gone up to 7 or 8 on speed so I don't have to adjust what I'm seeing as much.

I can tell you from experience it will work at anything above 2mph or so, seems to work best at 4- 5.5 mph for side imaging. But the key to getting consistant readable soundings is keeping the transducer going in a straight line. The problem with running the transducer on the trolling motor is the movement side to side as you steer with the trolling motor. Down imaging works just like 2d sonar so many of the limitations of using side imaging do not apply.

DI works absolutely fine at slow trolling motor speeds(0-1mph) and with the transducer mounted to the trolling motor head. Go for it.

There are some you tube videos online that will tell you what settings to change to have optimum DI performance in regards to your speed. I watched them a couple years ago and now cant remember what settings...I'll have to re-watch the videos as I'm thinking on Getting a helix 6 gps/DI for the front of my tuffy.
