Do the newer Luna still have the AR bearing problems like the old models.

I switched from the St. Croix AC300's which I changed out the bearing once a year to the Luna's and have not had any AR failures since. The bearing in the AC300's was blue and the ones in the Luna's are grey. So there is a difference but i'm not sure that's any functional reason why i haven't had any failures with the Luna's.

The Luna is a very good reel....I've burned through an original Revo Toro and tried the 400D but i still end up back to the Luna's as my main reel.

Pikemaster went through both of mine last spring and they are better than new with the upgrades he did.

I'm going to try a Beast this year...we'll see if that knocks off the Luna for me. I would not hesitate getting another Luna though.

I've got a Luna, hardly used. Not reliable. Likes to back reel. I've had that thing serviced many times and not much changes. Not a fan, but, when "right" it is the smoothest reel I own.

I've been running two Lunas for a long time now.  The anti reverse is a known weakness, so its not a top choice for applications where ripping or jerking is necessary... putting lots of pressure on the AR bearing.

I use mine for straight retrieve stuff... and the reels have remained flawless and smooth.

Not sure if they changed anything on the newer one's versus the earlier one's like mine.

I'd recommend them as long as you aren't targeting to use on a Jerkbait Rod.

Good luck.

I have several years on my luna and love it. I have never had problems with the ar, I have had some issues with the ar on the ac300 in the cold though.

The Luna is a Great reel
But you must keep your thumb on the spool when ripping baits and on hook sets
The AR Bearing is very weak
Plus use only a very thin Oil on that bearing

I have had five of these reels. You can get an upgraded bearing for these, but they still periodically will have the anti reverse problem if you don't keep them clean and lightly oiled. Great reels though if you do the upkeep on them.

Richard,
I just saw a ebay someone advertising an AR ratchet that fits the luna 300. I know nothing about the internals on a reel which is why I send them to you but this looks different then the AR bearings that I have seen for sale. Just go to ebay and look up diawa luna 300, sort with the cheapest first and it will be one of the first things listed. Is this something new or somebody who does not know what they have?

I've had my Luna 300L since 2010 & mainly use it for jigging Bondy baits & sturgeon fishing. The AR has always been rock solid for me & haven't had any issues. That reminds me I need to call Pikemaster to see where my Luna & Toro are at since he's had them since the end of July & the Michigan inland lake season open next month.
