Hobby shops sell solid brass rods of different diameters. Cut the them to length & either drill a hole or dremel out a slot to put them in.

if you go the solid rod way, home depot, lowes, and any other hdw type store sells them and you can get stainless also.

What would I need to cut the solid brass rods? Is there any thing in my collection of hand tools that would get the job done? Bolt cutters?

plain old hack saw will do. stainless a little harder. brass is soft.

Tungsten shot you might be able to find BB or BBB for reloading shotgun shells!!! Tungsten actually weighs more than lead per volume and is non toxic. Downside it is kind of pricey.
