Location: Athens, Ohio | FYI, here's a post from the Central boards on water conditions up there:
Hi.Thanks guys for the compliments on my book.I just returned from 2.5 days on LOTWs and have a few safety comments.
The lake is about as low as I've seen it.Maybe only that low once or twice in the last 30 years. It is very hazardous and even some main travel routes are questionable in places.
I know of 4 lower units and a host of other more minor problems so far.(my old 200 Yamy got it but owner OK except for the $1000's now absent from his wallet)Use particular care when off main travel routes.Approach/leave 'spots'with care. Those with a little knowledge are at the most risk in my opinion.Cut points, tips of reefs or any corners like you are used to and you WILL have an accident.
If you are now traveling via 'chip/GPS'don't rely on those for how close you can go to a hazard.Remember-crap in/crap out on those.Use as general travel references only.
Be cautious and have a great time.Be careless and I can almost guarantee you won't.
Catch a monster and let it go.
