| I have a dumb question for you all. When someone referes to a "breakline" a "fast breakline" or "fish the breakline" what are they referring to? Is this an area that goes from shallow to deep, is it the edge of a weedbed? Not sure what everyone is referring to. I appreciate any assit you can provide.

Location: Appleton, WI | Breaklines to me means a distinct edge of structure . You can have a distinct breakline of weeds, quick transition areas from hard rock to softer bottoms, or quick drop-off when the depth changes. Edge of river channels, dredged areas, or transition of any structure can also be considered a breakline. Some breaklines are distinct or some may be subtle. Some lakes can have multiple breaklines, which is really a staircase effect of the basin of a lake. It's distinguishing whether the uniqueness of the change in structure will hold fish that's important to fisherman. I think breaklines or edges are very interchangable terms. Good question!!!

By the way....only dumb question is one that is never asked... We all learn from each other, that's part of what makes MuskieFIRST a great place to spend a few minutes of your free-time.

| Mark, thanks for taking the time to respond and for attaching the pic. As you stated, easy to understand. I appreciate your feedback. This is my first year fishing for musky -- I still have a ton to learn. I feel pretty good in that I only have been on the water 6 times this year with 4 in the boat with the largest just over 42". Last time out I had my first multi-fish day. All due to the wonderful information on this and other musky discussion boards. Thanks again.

Your more than welcome, it is things like this that help us all to learn, just one of the great things about MuskieFIRST and other boards that are managed in a tasteful way.
Your percentages for being a new angler are quite impressive, there are many who have fished for several years and not caught as many as you have. I have been doing this for 20+ years and we NEVER know it all. In fact the more I learn about muskies the more it reinforces just how much I don't know...if that makes any sense.
