Location: Contrarian Island | all around reel, I put it on the rod I throw topwaters, cranks etc.. can do anything you would use a TE for

Posts: 1100 | Sounds great, have you compared it to the 400d ? it looks like the line guide is moved further away from the spool then on the D or have they made the side plate even smaler then on the D.

Location: Contrarian Island | nope, I haven't compared it...

Posts: 347 Location: eagle river, wis | I have a 300 and a 400 and fished with them all summer.Got the japan ones early. The 400 is geared way too fast for bucktails.I use it for topwater cranks and jerk baits. It is very smooth and i like the smaller size. The 300 you can use for anything.Put a single handle from Daves reel repair on the 400 and I love it.I spooled them with the new power pro quasi line and am very impressed with it.No color change in it all summer and no backlashes either. jeff

Posts: 1100 | Fastcast2, as far as i can see they are geared the same, is there something i have miss understood ?

Location: Contrarian Island | the 300 and 400 are geared the same... I am not sure why someone would choose the 300 over the 400.. smaller spool on the 300 you end up casting off a lot more line... the 400 is a great all around reel...it would pull bucktails fine at average speeds but def not a reel I would use to try and burn them... they are the smoothest reel I have owned... you would have try pretty hard to get a backlash with a Conquest!

He might be talking about the 2015 model which is not like the previous years.

I had the 2015 400 and it was terrible for blades and did not seem strong enough for muskie use. The 2015 does have a different ratio than pervious years which were similar to the 400 TE. It would with small baits though.

Location: Contrarian Island | huh, I googled the 2014 specs...same as the 2015 specs... I have a brand new 2015 and it is great.. definitely as strong as the TE I own.. what specs are you talking about?

Location: varies | Older US TE'S were 5.1:1 Conquest are 5.6:1 with more bearings, smaller body. not the same as the older te. I have several te's and a new 2015 400 conquest. I prefer the 300 Te over the 400 in the old. but if in market for new conquest, get the 400 its glass smooth. If pulling 10's, get a tranx. There is and will never be an effortless reel for tens. The tranx pg is as close as it will ever get unless Todd brings his hydraulic muskie reel to the market of course.

Posts: 2097 | Would a new conquest 400 be similar to a 400d with 300d gears?
BNelson![]() |
| ||
Location: Contrarian Island | Yah, I know that... I thought Ben was saying older Conquests were a different ratio... the 300 and 400 Conquests have the same gear ratio...so they will pull anything pretty much the same except the 300s spool is a lot narrower....I'd agree the Conquest is not the reel to pull 10s unless you want to slow roll them then it's fine.... Tranx is of course better, I prefer the HG over PG

Posts: 1100 | Sounds like what i would use my old conquest for. Was thinking of the new conquest or the toro besat, but would mainly use it for slow winter fishing with big baits, so i think i'll get the 60 size TBeast, but maybe the conquest later just because it would be nice to have in the arsenal. :D

Geez, What did you guys do, hit the lottery? ![]() Simple, tell her you went to Jared when you really went to the pawn shop and got that El cheapo piece of jewelry. The tough part is aquiring the Jared box to put it in. Then, tell her it cost a pretty penny and get the conquest. Jewelry for both of ya.

Posts: 1100 | The most crazy thing, is the prize for a Tranx HG here in Denmark, are lower then what the Tbeast are going to be, might just get Tranx HG nr 3, and switch the gear to PG.

Geez, What did you guys do, hit the lottery? ![]() My wife was the one who told me to get off my #*^@ wallet and buy the lake house, so I figure any lake related accessories are just part of the deal. That said, I have a few TEs and see no need to downgrade to the new reels that are coming out now. ![]()

Posts: 309 Location: Elgin IL | I used one 2015 model for the summer and really liked it smooth and casts well as it should. I put a TN12 handle on it added a slingblade and used it for anything but big blades. Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Posts: 682 Location: Sycamore, IL | Still trying to understand what niche this reel fits. 90% of the time I cast jerk baits/ twitch minnow baits... Would this reel be GREAT for throwing jerk baits? I'm thinking of up grading my set-up and would like some advise before forking over this kind of $. How durable is a conquest? Can I expect to get many years of service out of this reel? Thanks! P.S. I've never use a Shimano round reel before... I have a Curado 300 EJ though if that helps to make comparisons.
