Location: Oswego, IL | Trying to figure out which TI rod would be" comparable" to the Slingblade such as action, and weight. Not looking for a which one is better thread... only "comparison" so make a correct purchase. Anyone who's had both or has both please advise. Thank you

Posts: 427 | A TI stick is going to feel quit a bit different then a LT rod. The LT is a fast action rod with a smaller handle. The TI rod is a little slower action rod with a fat oversized handle. If you are looking based on size and weight the 8ft 6in TI XH would probably be you closest match. The first time I picked up a TI rod I thought I had made a mistake because of the handle size, that lasted about 15 minutes and now there is about 7 of them in the garage. In my opinion it comes down to what you are comfortable with and what you want to spend, you really can't go wrong with either.

Location: Oswego, IL | So is the TI tip a bit firmer? I had the sling blade before but thought when i went into the 8 it was s bit to light and took more bend then i prefer

Posts: 427 | From the research I have done the faster the action of a rod the higher in the blank it loads. This means that the TI loads a little lower in the blank than a faster action rod giving you more strength and control in the figure 8. I don't know if it is just my increase in experience or has something to do with the rod but I have noticed that I have better luck keeping the fish pinned with the TI rods than I have the other, faster action rods that I have used in the past. With that being said I have not owned a LT rod, I do know several guys that use them with a ton of success.

Posts: 1100 | Its a bit like comparing apples and oranges, some like one, some like the other. I prefer a stiff rod with a soft tip, and my fishing buddy is just the opposite, he likes the rod to loads deep in the cast and during the fight. Tell us what you gonna use it for and its a bit easier to give some good advise. ![]()

Posts: 151 Location: Chippewa Falls, WI | I have 4 TI's and the sling blade. I'll tell you what I like to use them for. I bought the sling blade thinking it would be my rod for big blades 9's and up. I found out the tip has too much flex in it for my liking especially in the figure 8. I love the rod for smaller blades and especially running cranks. It's my favorite crank bait rod by far but I did not care for it on big blades. I have two 9' TI rods, one xh and one xxh. To me the xh is similar to the sling blade but the top doesn't have as much flex in it. I prefer the xxh for big blades but not for some of the other baits that I like to throw the most. Like the other guys above said you really need to decide what your going to use the TI rod for and then we can tell you which model we would recommend based on what we like. James (obviously knows his rods better than any of us) already stated which one is most comparable to the sling blade but that doesn't mean it would be the one you should get because they are still different rods at the end of the day. hope that helps some

Location: Oswego, IL | ideally fishing gliders, 8's, possibly 9's nothing bigger as far as blades.. jerks, top waters, etc... pretty much a mid size all around rod and reel set up. I want to pair the new one with either my toro 5;4 or my nail 6;4, haven't decided on that yet. I have a big dawg that ill put PG on for larger stuff.... 10's+, rubber, etc..

Posts: 151 Location: Chippewa Falls, WI | I'd recommend the 9' tele XH. Awesome all around setup paired with either reel. I prefer the 6.4 for additional line pickup when fighting fish as well as picking up slack line on gliders. I run a 50 nacl 6.4 on a 7'6 for my phantoms and hellhounds. A lot of guys like the longer rods for gliders and WTD baits but I like the shorter rods for those specific baits. I have a TI XXH for those as well as a LT jerk. I run hellhounds a lot so I switched to the jerk last year when I got a smoking deal on a new one...honestly don't feel like it would be worth the extra money if a guy had to pay MSRP for the jerk over the TI. I don't say James makes a good rod for the money, there just good rods period. I don't fish all that much compared to a lot of guys maybe 20 or so days a season is all so maybe I would feel differently if fished more hours each season. I think certain rods are great for certain applications. You won't know what you like or don't like about a rod until you spend time on the water with em. Good luck with whatever you decide.
