Just wondering how often you guys and gals change out your impeller pump on your motor. I have an older boat that I bought used and I have owned it for a few years now and have never changed it out yet. it is still working but I am just wondering if a guy should just to change it out this spring before the season starts. Also does anyone know about how much this would cost to have done on a motor?

A lot of it depends on your use. I own a marina and we see people bringing them on a yearly basis all the way out until not till it's too late. I change mine every year, but I use the heck out of mine 2014 boat and motor with 300+ hours on it. If your not abusing it(starting out of the water, going through lots of sand, lots of weeds, etc.) you can probably go awhile. A good rule we suggest here is around 3-4years.(in Iowa BTW) Less or more up to you depending on use. better safe than sorry or ruin a fishing trip. Most shops have discounts during the winter months, either way not a very expensive piece of mind.

I change mine every third year regardless of need. I have it done when I winterize. It is great piece of mind.

I get mine changed about every other year and if memory serves me correctly, I believe it is around $200 for an Opti 175.

Judging by your winterization fiasco, impossible.

I change my impeller every 200 hrs or every 3 years. It's not difficult to do, and parts are under $100

Every other year unless you run a lot of shallow muddy/silty water

I've seen them fail on people 25 miles out in Canafa on Lake of the Woods with no kicker. It's a simple small maintenance but one that can ruin a day real quick...

When these things go do they typically show signs prior to failing? Weak stream out of the pee hole? Or do they just go without warning. I check the stream every day while running at cruising speed.

Mine did not give up any sign that it was about to crap the bed. Small fee for peace of mind.
