Do low gear ratio reels have a place in your arsenal ? If so for what applications?

I use one of the old Toro winch, for slow rolling. when its needed, i suck at fishing slow with my other reels, as soon i stop concentrating on going slow, i tend to speed up, the slow reel helps. But its a bit harder to keep a tight lines when fighting a fish.

I use a diawa luna for double 10s but I have two other low gear ratio reels. Think it makes more sense to replace them with a higher gear ratio for glide baits and burning smaller bucktails.

| I can't say enough about my Toro Winch when it comes to Hawg Wobbler or Creeper style lures. As Zinox stated, I too sucked at fishing slow baits so the lower speed reel lets me crank at a normal feeling speed while slowing the retrieve for these baits. I bought mine for twin tens and found I still wasn't throwing them much to justify $300 at the time. I was bummed out about the purchase until I applied it to my slooooow topwater baits.

I use low geared reels for creepers, and other big top waters that I want to fish slow. Big bucktails and hard pulling spinnerbaits, and of course big lipped deep diving crankbaits. Kdawg
