Location: WI | Curious on how many I need to make topwater lures. Can I get by with 2 or 3 nice ones, or should I buy a set? The only ones I found locally were a set for $200, which seems high to me. |

| spindle gouge and/or scraper is all you need. don't waste your money on a set. most tools in a set are not needed to make baits. quality matters when it comes to turning tools. Robert Sorby is what I use. Id buy a Sorby HSS spindle gouge and a carbide (replaceable, round cutter tip) scraper.

Location: Hastings, mn, 55033 | You can certainly get by with just a spindle gouge. I use 3 tools for making my topwaters. A 3/8"spindle gouge, a 3/4" roughing gouge and a 3/4" skew chisel. Each has its place IMO.
I use the Crown brand powder metal tools. Little higher priced but still comparable to Sorby HSS and the powder metal tools hold an edge longer IMO.
