Joe's fish was mounted by Jeffrey A. Lutz of Lasting Memories Taxidermy in Charlevoix, Michigan on south M-66 HWY (Ironton) 3685 Washington St. Phone # is: 231-547-5455.

I might add that he did a fantastic job after the replica guys cut the head clear off the body to make the mold for the replica!

Mold maker was John Metz at Lake County Replica's in Hawick, MN. Phone number: 320-276-8836. [email protected]

You would have to contact them to see if any blanks are available, but be aware the the replica will NOT look like the skin mount. I haven't seen the actual replica, but their work would be different than the skin mount.

I realize I'm a little late on this but...

Cabela's paid for the mold to be done and they have the rights to the mold. If I recall correctly there were three replicas made and those would be the only ones done of the fish. The replicas look pretty good, the painting... not so much.

Hi Will, thanks for the info. I spoke with John from Lake country and he never indicated that the mold was owned by Cabelas. He led me to believe that blanks were available from that mold.

This is a pic I received from John @ Lake Country. This fish blank measures 56.5 but John said he has a 57.5 using the same mold for the body with a different head. I assume the 57.5 is the original fish [Seeberger ?] and the 56.5 is the body using a smaller head.
Interesting the games that can be played, eh?

The MI DNR had someone else do the replica for them and it looked much better than the Lake Country mold painted by Lutz. Sure wish the next person to catch a WR would let Joe Fittante mount and make molds of the fish.

I must be missing something here. Larry Ramsell indicated that Lake Country Replicas in Mn made a mold from the fish. From his post, I gathered that Lutz Taxidermy them did a skin mount after the fish was molded by LCR. In order for this to work, the fish had to be sent to Mn for molding and then back to Mi for mounting.
Will, are you saying that the Mi DNR also had a taxidermist make a mold of the fish.
Something does not seem right.
I'm wondering if the fish caught by Seeberger was actually molded or just fabricated from dimensions given.

I don't think you're missing anything. The fish was sent to MN and cut apart for molding (Larry was there for this to confirm stomach contents and re-weigh the fish since I could only confirm frozen weight/length). The fish was then sent back to Michigan and the skin mount was done by Lutz. I assumed, but never confirmed, that the replicas were also painted by Lutz since they all have the same paint job on them. No, I'm not saying the MI DNR had a mold of the fish done, they had a replica done but only from measurements of the fish. The University of Michigan also had a replica done of the fish that I believe was one of the three made by Lake Country.
