Location: Toronto, ON | I've read a lot of posts on this and other boards about different individual's preferences in polarized sunglasses. I want to step up to glass from plastic (H2Optix) and it appears that glasses from Ocean Waves and Costa del Mar rank ahead of the rest in terms of popularity and value. Which is better? What colour lenses? I'm leaning towards Backwater Green for Ocean Waves and Green Mirrored for Costa del Mar--what are your thoughts?

| I have a pair of Ocean Waves with the Backwater Green lenses.
They're nice, but don't have any magical ability to see under the surface, like I had hoped.
If you decide on Costa Del Mar, there are pretty swell deals here:
http://www.sierratradingpost.com unfortunately it looks like only their CR39 tempered plastic lenses.
I also watch for great deals at campmor.com. I have a pair of Xoor (Poloroid) polarized sunglesses that are real nice and were only $15 including a cool case.
But like anyone else, I really like my most expensive polarized glasses.
Nice to have cheap backups though, in case I forget the good ones.

Location: Holly, MI | Why do you want glass? Is it just for scratch resistance? The glass lenses are way heavier and the optical quality plastic lenses are awesome these days. I had polarization coatings added to a pair of perscription glasses with high end polycarbonate (say..thin and strong) and they are great. |

Location: Toronto, ON | Thanks to everyone for their feedback. I would like to avoid polycarbonate if possible because of the scratching-my H2Optix were very good but scratched if you sneered at them....
However, if I did want to stay with plastic, how good is the H3O Tsunami interchangeable system?

| Tan dude, the H30s are pretty daggone nice, but they will scratch; I got a set w/ the 3 different lenses, w/ amber being me favorite. They have lasted 4 + years, and I still use them, and for the $$$, they work well. I plan to go to the Jims or OWs in the near future maybe, but will still use the H30s too... |

Location: Kalamazoo, MI | I just picked up some costa del mar 'fluids' with changeable lenses. So far they seem very scratch resistant, and very 'clear'. The glasses are so light if I wasnt able to see 15' down into the water, I wouldnt know I had them on. |

Location: NeverNever Lake | I got a pair of Revos, Maui Jims, Natives and Orvis Yellow Polarized.
My requirements are this........
Good fit..no light gets in around the sides
Polycarbonate lenses....light weight, no breakie
rubber inserts on the earpiece....they gotta stay on the brim of my hat when not on my face.
My Revos have glass lenses, but I only use them for driving and they don't leave the truck.
IMO the glass lenses are not worth the weight or the breakyness for that extra 3% of clairity

| I use the grey lens the rose is good also a friend of mine has that one,I have to get back to you on the style . I picked out a nice one last year have to check catalog to find name.0723

| KLY I have typhoon's with grey lenses a freind of mine has the same model with rose lenses. Both are great the rose seem better in gin clear water but the grey are a better choice for a wider range of conditions. |

I'm partial to grey lenses but it really depends on the lighting and water conditions..
Alot of different products these days are made under the same roof....

Location: Far Northwest Chicago Suburb | I just picked up some Costa del Mars last month and really enjoy wearing them. They are not glass or in other terms the mirrored green or blue, but are the dark amber polycarbonate lenses. If you keep them in the carrying case religiously when not worn they will not scratch. Also buy the Costa del Mar cleaning rag, its like one of those swiffers that magnetically pick up dust, don't bother using your shirt, because scratching will occur! The frames are plastic but a heck of a lot stronger then Oakleys. How many pairs of Oakleys have I gone through again? Hummmm?
On overcast, or partly cloudy days the amber lenses shine or have the best overall clarity on the water, I can see reefs or structure that are well off in the distance, too. The blue mirrored lenses or gray are much better on bright sunny days while on the water, but the ambers or green mirrored work just as good, but not the best. My eyes do get tired at the end of the day if it had been sunny all day. I am contemplating on picking up some gray lenses for those bright fishing days. |
