Location: Belgium | Does anybody know why Reef Hawgs seem to be out of stock everywhere? I tried Thorne Bro's and Rollie&Helen's musky shop (not even in the online catalogue) so I'm trying to order them directly from the site from Fudally's. So strange ... Maybe someone can tell me why they have become so hard to find?

Location: MN | I can tell you thorne hasd about 20 last Friday in the store. I doubt they flew off the shelf given the time of year. I do agree less places seem to carry them which is a shame. |

Location: Ludington, MI | Guide's Choice in Eagle River had a good selection a month ago. I think it has to do with the limited color schemes. Guys are opting for Squirkos or other gliders because there are more choices of finishes. |

Well, I found it strange that R&H no longer sold them online and all 6" ones at Thorne's online website were 'currently out of stock' so we'll order directly from the Fudally website. I love these lures. The action is so unpredictable! Personally, I felt they had way too many color schemes years ago (and even sold white ones that you could paint yourself or have painted). Maybe they narrowed it down to the best selling and catching ones?

Location: Belgium | Concerning the comment about the limited choice in color schemes, I just counted the ones on the website (regular, custom painted and holo) and I counted 40 different color schemes. I wonder how many color schemes must exist for the Squirkos then? 
For pike fishing I usually end up using about 6 types: baitfish silver, baitfish gold, perch (white based or yellow based), firetiger/jailbird (yellow and black basically), redhead and pink. That about sums it up together with a few northern pike colored ones.
From experience I always go back to the same color schemes for particalur lures because they consistently outfish the other patterns. But that's a whole different discussion I'm not going to start here. Just found that remark a bit strange from my perspective, that's all.

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Mike is a good friend of mine and of muskie fishing. He has a big display at several shows a year. I love his baits, and the more fish I catch on any of my Reef Hawgs and the more beat up they get, the better I can make them dance.
People complain about the paint, like the bait is a car or something. The fish don't give a darn about the paint job, that's the fisherman. Your Reef Hawg crack, did it? I'll take it. People complain that Mike is hard to reach via email. Yeah, that's true, he doesn't think much of computers and doesn't worry much about what anyone is saying here. He's probably out fishing. He cares about his product, and loves to hear success stories, but is solidly 'old school' with no apologies.
Lots of colors available, but in this day of 'slick' being as important to selling a lure as 'function', shops stock a limited number.
divani knows what makes a muskie bait a 'good lure'; he's an artist and master at crafting lures in his own right.

At first I was confused about what it was supposed to be doing for style and action. Now I know this, they catch fish and now I'm wondering what it doesn't do? |

Location: Ludington, MI | Not disputing that they catch fish. I have three and I love them. In fact, I look for more when I'm up in muskie country. But all I ever see are the same four color patterns. I could build a log cabin with those black-and-pink ones that every store has left over. For the record, two of my smaller ones were online purchases. I just think stores would stock more and the company would sell more if they had a bigger line of colors more readily available. |

| We have had a good relationship with Mike over the years. He just can't produce and supply baits on a consistent basis that we need. We were buying from a distributor but they no longer carry the Reef Hawgs. Please check your facts before making statements about business relationships. |

Location: north central wisconsin | Exactly what steve said. Mike has his outlets, shows, etc. and does just fine in terms of sales/volume. Personally, I'm glad they aren't in every corner shop, selfishly that is.. I still have a couple of the 100 8" Reef Hawg kits that I acquired from Mike 20 years ago while in college. When I want a new color, I paint one up. With that said, the painting brings up an interseting point. Over the years, I've been finding myself asking folks to please skip the thick clear coats that peel off when I catch muskies and bang them off bridge pilings. I've asked most of my custom lure suppliers to please paint my lures as Mike paints 'Hawgs, or how Bobbie baits have been painted through the years. I would rather have paint chip and 'grind' away through use, than to have entire sides of thick clear and the paint beneath, peel away from a lure, leaving no color and altering action. With that said, I have been impressed with the durability of many of the recent clear coats on several of my lures over the past decade, but when asked, I still ask for a simple Reef Hawg paint job. I'll seal them/protect myself as they become worn over time. |
