While ordering a new trailer for my row trolling boat I stumbled apon a tuffy x-170t and really seemed to like the boat and the price. I was planning on purchasing a larger deep v in the future and when looking at this boat I feel like it may be all I really need. I mainly fish the Boulder Junction area of Wisconsin and make a yearly trip to Lake Vermillion. The salesperson assured me it has a decent rough water capability and that the 40hp Yamaha it was rigged with was all it really needed. The boats rated for 50hp. I know several people on this forum own one and I was wondering their opinions now that the boats been out awhile? Anybody wish they bought more boat? I can afford a larger style fiberglass boat but if this will keep me happy and on the water I'd rather not make payments! Let me know your thoughts?

Really like mine. I ran the prototype with a 40 and it was plenty. I have a 2011 powered with a 50 and spend most of my time in Vilas and Oneida fishing that hull. You will want a Just Encase box for the front deck, it completes the boat.

I also have a 1760 T with a 75, and prefer to fish the 170T most of the time on my local lakes.

I've fished Vermilion and other bigger waters with the X170T, no issues.

Why do you prefer the 170 over the 1760? Can you tell what is the overall length on the trailer of the 170?

thanks

The 170 and the 1760 are two totally different boats. The 170 will handle the bigger waters til it gets wavey, but is more designed for the smaller lakes. The 1760 will handle most anything, anywhere that is safe for the majority of other boats. The 170 is a smaller, lighter boat with a shallower draft. The 1760 is bigger, heavier boat that is better equipped for a greater number of lake/fishing situations.

I fish alone quite a bit, and with Keith or Sue most of the rest of the time. Quite a few of the lakes I fish don't have great landings, and the X170 will float in a lot less water, getting it on the shore where I'd have to wade to the 1760. Both are stable at rest. The X170 responds to less trolling motor much faster, the boat control from that ride is very good even in big winds. I used about 25 gallons of gas all year in the X170T. The X170 does 30 MPH WOT with a 50. The 1760 does 30 MPH WOT with a 75. I used a heck of a lot more gas using the 1760 a heck of a lot less.

If you are fishing lakes from 100 to 4000 acres most of the time, the x170 will do quite well for you and tows like it isn't even there. If you are fishing bigger water most of the time, you will want the 1760T.
