Location: Contrarian Island | I bent mine a few yrs ago... yah, you are better off having it fixed / replaced asap.. not good for the motor... it's a pricey fix! my insurance covered mine minus the deductible..might be something to call your insurance about.. mine was over $1k

Posts: 4 | Check with your local prop shop. We have a place in town that can straighten it without even removing the shaft form the lower unit. (Providing it is bent on the outside of the carrier, which is almost always the case.) A new shaft is VERY expensive and this is a good option. They had mine within .004". Spec is .006".

Location: Contrarian Island | his insurance is covering it...so it makes more sense to just get it replaced imo...

Posts: 192 | I bent one on a 25 hp. I took it apart and had my local machine shop straighten it, cost 7$ or something like that and they got it back to absolutely no run out. The factory shafts all have a bit of run out there is a "in spec" and "out of spec" for shaft run out.

Posts: 192 | And if you ran it with a bent shaft don't forget new seals!! I'm sure it took all the shaft seals out depending on how much it bent. But all of this can be done at home with a little bit of YouTube watching and elbow grease.
