Posts: 1039 Location: North St. Paul, MN | It's looking like I'm going to be in south barrington, IL with my wife on Nov. 5 and 6 (Thursday and Friday). She's going to be attending a conference those days so I'll have the days to myself. Any muskies close? Anyone willing to take me out fishing :o)? If nothing else, guide recommendations? Thanks, Steve

Posts: 1767 Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | my suggestion would be to see if your wife can move the conference to WI or MN instead

Posts: 1039 Location: North St. Paul, MN | haha...if that were the case, I'd be good to go and have a few options to fish that I know of. Unfortunately it's in South Barrington. How far will I be from the fox chain and a decent shot at catching a fish?

Posts: 1039 Location: North St. Paul, MN | Hi guys...thanks for all the replies and the few pm's. The visit to IL is on, BUT my 6 year old daughter is coming with. So, no fishing, but I do want to venture into the city with her while mom is at the conference. Guys from Chicagoland - from Hoffman Estates (La Quinta Inn, exactly) what's my best bet getting into the city on a late Thursday and Friday morning? Looks like the blue line is closest...still a ways away from the hotel. I'm pretty good about using the trains and public transit in Chicago, but any tips/tricks are much appreciated. thanks, Steve

Posts: 470 | You could also Catch the METRA train downtown. I think the nearest station to Hoffman Estates is Arlington Park or Arlington Heights (5 Miles or so). The train will drop you off in the middle of Downtown at Ogilvie Transportation Center, 500 West Madison. They Run just about Hourly during the day on Thursday and Friday. You want to check the METRA Union Pacific Northwest line on www.metrarail.com HTH, RandalB

Stay away from the Blue Line. The above is sound advice. Definitely go with the Metra, either Arlington Heights or Palatine train stations will work. Anything you can do to stay away from 90 and Golf Rd is a plus. I take the 90 route in and out to Hoffman Estates every day and its pretty unpredictable and typically slow. There is a Cabelas just west of where you will be staying in case you feel the need to get out of the hotel room one evening.

Posts: 1039 Location: North St. Paul, MN | That'll do it!! Thanks! Thanks, Nate! I knew to come here and ask for advice! I could've gone around and searched out travel sites, etc. But, seriously, I knew musky guys would get me the info needed way quicker than what I could have gotten doing a google search. Plus, helpful and accurate! Thanks guys! Now, any ideas for me and my 6 year old for a day or two in Chicago? Edited by muskyroller 9/28/2015 1:39 PM

Posts: 470 | Hit the Museums. Easy to get to from downtown via CTA (Public Transportation) The Science and Industry museum is great for kids, the Shedd Aquarium is also cool if your kid likes that kinda thing. (Don't know if they have a Muskie Exhibit or not anymore..) There is also tons of shopping within a short distance including an American Girl Store if she's into that sort of thing. I'm working both those days from 6 AM until 2PM at Ogilve Center -Message me for contact info if you want to chat about it. RandalB

Posts: 8832 | The only redeeming quality that IL has is the moment you exit this MF on 39 and leave it behind... It's a great place to be from. FAR from.
