Well guys I lucked out and got a free bag of lures from a neighbor. One ended up being a Heddon Flaptail, anyone know much about them? Pretty limited info out there on them, all I could find is they started making lures in 1890, went to mass production in 1902 and was sold in 1955.

Muskyhunter 51,

The old Heddon flaptail was introduced in the 30's I believe, and as usual with Heddon lures of that period, were works of art and fish catchers if properly used.

The key is working them slow so that the tail flips back and forth rather than rotate. If done properly a rhythmic sound is achieved and is deadly on big muskies, especially at night. Calm water is best.

During the 60's and 70's Dave Snoddy made a basement version that closely followed the original. The balance and tuning of his flaptail were critical, but man did they catch fish, including a 52" 47 lb. personal best out of big Tomahawk in Sept. 78.

You have a real treasure, enjoy.....
