I love my 2015 Larson 2020fx. But might have a good deal on a 2015 Ranger 621fs with a 300 Verado. Curious what the gas mileage is for the boat fully loaded with gas and gear. Anyone running this boat and what is the mpg at 40 mph?

I run a Lund fiberglass 208 with a 300 verado, it burns about 18-20 gallons per HR at that speed and 30 GPH at WOT.

so 2 miles per gallon at 40? I would think in the sweet spot that motor should get 3 mpg or more?
a quick google search guys were reporting getting 3.2 mpg to 3.4 mpg at 4200 rpm

Double checked my GPH at 40mph and the best was 17.2, these are real numbers and not something you read on the internet.

that doesn't sound right, I have an older 621 with a 250 Pro XS - 40 MPH - I'm burning 9.5 - 10.5 GPH .... so if you go for a nice 3.5 hr cruise at 40mph you are out of fuel?

Agree completely.
My 250 ProXS consistently does 9.5-9.7 GPH at 40MPH as monitored by the Mercury Smartcraft unit. I know because I monitor fuel pretty closely when running on LOW because the fuel there is around $6/gallon.
I also don't like running on plane more than 40 or so....so I know this is my economy.

I was just reporting what I found last night as I have a very similar boat with the motor (300 Verado) that he was wondering about. GPH info was taken directly off the Mercury Smartcraft Gauges. You are all welcome to come to central mn, fish with me for the day and see for yourself.

All I can say is ouch if your numbers are correct @ 40 MPH... at 17.2 GPH my boat will run around 57-58 MPH

I'd challlenge your smartcraft gauge isn't right...17.2 gallons per hour... seems way off or something is wrong with your motor... there are plenty of guys that put out their real world results on walleyecentral, and other bass boat sites stating they are getting 3.2 to 3.5 miles per gallon with their 300 Verados

when spending 70-90k for a boat do you worry much about fuel mileage?

Could be it's a trim issue ??

Merc states that a 350hp Verado operating at 4250rpm should consume 14.0 gph.
I'd assume then that a 300 would be slightly less.

39.1 MPH/16.6GPH/2.4 MPG for the boat above-I would say mine is about exactly the same.

ah read it wrong... but like others have posted in other forums... you can get 3.5 mpg in the sweet spot... 17 gallons per hour at 40 I wouldn't cruise on lotw at that speed!

I here ya there! I generally cruise around 30 and get about 10 GPH or a bit less. I also believe prop pitch plays a big factor, currently running a 19P and my guess is if I jump to a 21p I would see better fuel economy.

I run a 620fs w 250 Vrod and loaded w full tank sweet spot is 3.2 MPG @4050RPM ~37ish MPH. Prop is Rev 4 19 with ridiculously good hole shot but give up some economy I would imagine. Hope this helps

Thanks.

Had several people PM me and are considering purchasing a Larson. I want to say it is one of the best big water boats I have had or ridden in. And I have owned 6 boats in 28 years of fishing LOTW. They make a great boat.

If i do make the switch I will miss the captains seat.

The only reason I am considering a 621FS is it offers some amenities that I like. Are they worth the money, probably not. And am savings quite a bit of money on buying a close out at this time of the year. Is gas mileage a concern, not really but was interested.

I haven't made the final decision yet.

D

i have a 620fs with a 250 verado. I'd say at 40 mph I am getting 3 mpg. With a 50 gallon fuel tank it is plenty of range for Green Bay.
