Posts: 859 Location: MN | Anyone know someone who works a lot with Flashabou that makes pretied coils. I just hate working with the stuff so I would rather just purchase coils already tied up. Maybe its me but I like working with Hair. Anyone else have a favorite material they work with above others.

Posts: 1405 Location: Detroit River | I've built buck tails using the pre-tied flashabou from Rollie & Hellen's as well as Lure Parts Online. I liked the Rollie & Helen's pre-tied flashabou better because it was more durable & they had a better selection of colors (though they are usually out-of-stock on some). The problem with the pre-tied flashabou on coils is that they tend to spin when retrieved. I hate tying flashabou but I use bread ties to hold the ends tight together while I wrap the tread around the middle tying it to a brass collar. I only do a few wraps around the middle at first so that I can spread out the skirt more evenly around the collar then I finish wrapping. I'm unable to do a whip finish knot so I improvise by creating a loop with the string, twisting it a half turn then feed the bobbin through the hole & pull tight (I do this about 5 times). After I’m done with that I put on a few coats of Hard as Nails. Edited by Zib 9/10/2015 7:36 AM

Thanks for the tip. Funny thing is I recently started building rods & didn't even think to use that technique with tying flashabou.

Posts: 44 | Dang I love working with flash. For me its easier and less time consuming than hair or marabou. I do my ties in smaller portions Instead of one big clump. I also do a different knot than most people. What I do is wrap my coil and a small portion of flash, pull out some thread, put my pointer finger on the thread and make 3 twists. This makes a loop. You can make this loop as big or small as you need. Put this loop around the flash and pull it tight. Put some glue on and continue. This works very well for me. I would also be interested in making pretied flash for people as well. Pm me for more questions or if you'd want some pretied flash.
