Looking for a higher speed reel to bring in double 10's and big plastics/cranks quickly. I currently have a Revo Toro Winch 61 (4.8 to 1). Good reel but it's sure a lot of work to bring in 10's all day. I'm thinking of putting this reel on a heavier pole and making it my 12's / 14's / pounder reel.

What I need is a faster reel that can burn 10's and pick up line quickly on smaller cranks/jerkbaits. Right now I am trying to decide between a Daiwa Lexa 400HS-P or a Shimano Calcutta 401D. Will these reels be able to withstand the wear and tear from bringing in D10's quickly? Leaning towards a Calcutta 401D but turned off a little by it being only 5.1 to 1. That isn't much quicker than my Revo Toro Winch.

I think you may find that a high speed reel for burning Double 10s and big cranks is going to be much more work on you than using your Toro Winch - but you will be able to bring them in faster.

If you're working these on a straight crank in to the boat (not jerking or gliding) the Shimano 401D would get my vote. If you're wanting to work some jerk baits and top waters, I'd vote the Daiwa Lexa.

You may want to also check out the Revo Toro NACL 61 - which looks to be in your price range. It falls in the middle of both of these on speed and price.

And no matter which way you go, it will be easier reeling if you put a power handle on it if it doesn't come with one.

Note: I have no experience with any of these reels, just my thoughts from looking them up.

I have both and I use them for exactly opposite of what was said above. It's personal preference. The Diawa is faster, but definitely wears faster than the Calcutta. I have a winch and NACL as well. All lefty. I like the Diawa the best for blades out of the 4. I use the Calcutta the most out of them all and it is still the smoothest and quietest.

Great information guys thanks for the input.

Right now I'm leaning towards the Daiwa Lexa 400HS-P because of it's speed. I plan on pairing that with my Mojo 8'' MH for throwing smaller blades, cowgirls up to 10's, jerkbaits, and topwater. Then plan on pairing my Winch with a TI 9'' XXH for throwing pounders, big plastics, and 12's , 14's.

Sounds like Calcutta is the best reel but I'd rather spend a little less now and wait until I can spend $500 for a top of the line reel this winter.

Sounds like a good plan
