I bought a set of fenwick tech elite musky trolling rods about a month ago. I chose to put a set of okuma 453 cold waters on them. I have had the reel pull out of the reel seat twice on me, once on a snag and once on a fish. It seems as if the rear seat for the reel is too shallow. I have put a spare abu 7000 lc on and hope that it holds. I was curious if anyone else has had these same issues with these rods. Contacted fenwick and they said that I have a reel that is not compatible with the rod. It would seem to me that a cold water reel or for that mater a convector should easily fit these rods. Told me that they would give me a refund if the rods where in new condition, which they are not. I have taken them on multiple trips, and even lost and retrieved one from the lake. Have bought rods before with the same issue and dressed the seat with a dremel. Any one have these rods? what reels did you put on them? Thanks

I have used 3 different abu reels on mine with no issues. Very fond of the rod and expect you will be too once a compatible reel is found.

I bought a couple and experienced the same problem with my saltist reels not seating properly. I got a hose clamp to secure the reel to the rod...not pretty but it works. I like the action of the rod for smaller baits.

Maybe it's the reel. I have a Coldwater on a St. Croix Premier Glass rod and it has a slight amount of play even though I locked it down as tight as it goes. It hasn't came out of the reel seat though like yours. It just seems the base part of the reel isn't long enough.

I have two coldwaters on diawa accudepth trolling rods and they are just fine.

I do have a Fenwick elite tech casting rod and have put a Shimano Te on it with no trouble.
