Im looking at all my options for kickers for my boat. Lehr makes a kicker that runs on propane that may suit my needs. Any one have any feedback or insight for me to consider? Manufacturer doesnt make a power tilt and trim or linkage for big motor console steer, both aftermarket installation add on deal. A few very good pros and cons to consider. thanks

pro; greener, better fuel efficiency, cleaner running for engine (no winterizing, water, ethanol issues). built in starting battery.

cons; have to have a tank cylinder on board . carburetors. Lehr?

run time typically about 10 hours on a 20# tank (presently $18 fill). Cheaper than gas, no fumes, quieter than all others. No power tilt/trim (aftermarket lift). Need multiple tanks for long weeks, poor cold weather starts unless fuel tank brought indoors at night. Need more research on service and warranty coverage.

Your already buying gas and you already have a gas tank for me the decision is easy. I fish into Dec. so if propane is problematic in cold weather I want no part of it.

I filled a 20lb propane tank this morning for $12.30 that's $2.75 American. Propane is for Barbeque's.

I currently have a 2 stroke engine with the VRO removed, so Im mixing oil to the tank. I want a 4 stroke kicker or alternative (propane) so either way Ill need a separate tank to operate the kicker. Until I save enough for big 4 stroke main motor, Ill need a smokeless, quiet, fuel effcient kicker.
After all the add ons, the propane is about the same price as a 4 stroke kicker. Ill test out a free loaner propane for a year and give results and the motor back after a year if that works for anyone. thanks

I run a propane ice fishing auger - the only time cold is an issue is when it is -20F or if the 1 lb. cylinder is less than half full. I wouldn't be too concerned about cold weather affecting the outboard with a 20 lb. tank hooked up to it. It should start way easier than any gas motor if they are made similar to augers.
My biggest concern would be where to find room to store 2 - 20lb. tanks and then the what if...... you are talking about a liquid form of a compressed gas that is highly combustible. Way more like a bomb in the back of your boat than any other fuel tank.
If you can figure out a way to safely store the tanks I would be excited about the prospect of a propane kicker. I sure like my propane auger so I am guessing the kicker would be pretty awesome too.
