Posts: 183 | You can go online and preview Navionics lake maps anywhere in the world, whats on the Webapp will be on the chip. There are 2 views available the Nautical charts view with less detail and the SonarChart view with the "SonarChart Layer" which is much more detailed and precise. Follow this link to the webapp http://webapp.navionics.com/?lang=en#@6&key=orbpGbpzwP after you zoom in click on the sonar icon on the lower left of the screen for SonarChart view. I would rec. a Nav + card or if own a Hotmaps Premium the Navionics Updates card which converts your Premium to Nav +. Nav + covers all of US and Canada you download the area that you fish. So you can have anywhere in the US and Canada on one card not multiple cards. You can also log sonar upload it to Navionics and they will process this data which you download to your card with updated cartography. You can also do updates to your card for the first free with purchase so your card will never be out of date. What this gives you if Navionics improves mapping in areas you can refresh your card. Be aware not all sonars have a processor capable of running Nav + here is a link to the compatibility chart http://www.navionics.com/sites/default/files/documents/150702_ameri... Here are some examples. Feel free to ask questions or pm me The second one is Nautical charts which comes on Hotmaps Premium The third one is Sonarchart which comes on Nav+ and Hotmaps Platinum Go to the Web app and you can look at the Mapping data available, link is above

Posts: 132 | I have the Insight Pro chips and I find them to be pretty detailed and accurate. You need an HDS gen 1 with updated software or newer for them I think.

Posts: 1767 Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | Does anybody know the exact chip version needed to fit an HDSgen 1 for LOTW? I'm being told that even with updates most of the newer ones will still not work

Posts: 183 | Do you have an existing card of any kind? Anyway if not I would rec. Navionics + and Navionics Platinum North with the High Def SonarChart layer. Without retyping it all lots of info in a couple of posts above. I'm being told that even with updates most of the newer ones will still not work I've been using lowrance lake insight pro 2012 in my HDS gen 1 for 3 years now. Haven't used it at the angle, but I can say that in Whitefish Bay it's spot on with lakemaster... Only negative is that on the 500' scale it sometimes freezes when I'm panning around looking for new spots, that's due to the 1' contours and in Whitefish Bay there can literally be hundreds of them on the screen. The gen 1 processor can't keep up with that so I stick to the 100', 200', .1 mile, or. 2 mile scales and then no issues. I haven't had any freezing issues on MN lakes so I doubt you'd have that problem with the shallower meso portions of LOTW. Oh did I mention the insight chip has all of lakemaster's data up to 2011 on a single $100 chip... SWEET!!

Posts: 194 Location: Lake Elmo, MN | I use Lowrance Insight chip as well (HD 2015) however up near Ptarmagin Bay it loses data and lake info. The line of cutoff runs from Wiley Point to around Yellow Girl (near Long Bay). The Lowrance Inside HD chip does work on the angle very well.....I used it there last week. For the area up around Kenora/ Ptarmagin Bay I'd suggest the Navionics + chip. It has more data. Edited by PSAGuy 8/1/2015 11:50 AM
