Posts: 117 Location: Northern Illinois | Check out the new Daiwa lexa hd 400 in the 8:1.1 ratio available soon, also check out the new Abu Garcia toro beast available in fall, that reel looks like a tank also.

Posts: 1100 | Im a lefty and Basically there's no reel that compares to the Tranx, so i have learned to fish with it, and its worth the trouble. But i would take a look into these. Avet SX MC(or bigger model if you want even more speed) Calcutta D with power handle revo Toro with power handle

You'll find the mid-range gear ratio reels are plenty fast and are a lot less fatiguing. In a Lexa you'd be looking at the 400HL which is geared 6.3:1 and retrieves 33.4" of line per handle turn. If you can swing it, the Calcutta D 401 is an excellent choice. I have both that and a Lexa, and the Calcutta is by far my favorite. You just can't beat Shimano's gearing and it casts like a dream. (But it better be since it retails for about $120 more than the Lexa.) Fr. K

Posts: 865 | The Newer Saltist 20 is a Great reel and is made very well, and sells for about $200 and is great for double 10's and just about any Big Rubber you have.... And its about 60 % cheaper.....

Location: Not far enough north! | I've had an avet SX 2 speed for four years now. 36" and 20" per turn. Does not have a push button or level wind and the stainless gears are loud but it has been bullet proof. I think they run about $285 but it's almost like 2 reels in one

Posts: 42 Location: North MN | I'm left handed as well so finding a good reel can be tough. I'm using the REVO TORO WINCH left handed. It's not the best for burning cowgirls as it's only 4.8 to 1. With that being said, it's been a durable reel and been able to handle everything I've thrown at it.

Posts: 983 | learning to fish RH makes a big difference in reel selection. I just got used to it it doesn't take that long and opens the doors up to a few other reels not available in lefty

Posts: 218 | For those of you who were fans of the Shimano Calcutta TE series you might want to take a look at the Conquest 401 (the number one designates left side retrieve) http://www.muskyshop.com/modules/cart/products.php/keys/Conquest/pa...
