Posts: 99 | Hey guys, I want to get into making my own bucktails. I'm curious if any of you do this, and what website you order your components from? I've done a few searches and found a couple, but not sure if it's a good deal, and it seems like a lot of sites don't carry the big blades. Appreciate any input you can give me!

Posts: 365 | google up Lakeland Inc and the Worth Co and rollie&helens and Moores for a great blade and component selection --- jim

I would advise you think about it before you do build your own. I'm sucked in and build more bucktails then I could possibly need. Folks warned me but it happened anyway.

Buy long length of throttle cable on amazon or locally rather than pieces, search Throttle Control Universal 72-inch on amazon. IIRC, mustad hooks are cheapest through muskytackleonline.

Posts: 1405 Location: Detroit River | Hagen's, Moore's Lures, Lure Parts Online. Other's have mentioned Lakeland but they no longer take orders from individuals. You will need to be a lure manufacture with a federal ID number if you want to buy from them. I found this out last month.

Posts: 99 | Awesome, thanks for the suggestions! I'll probably go nuts and build way too many, but I feel like that's part of the fun.

Posts: 386 | Not sure where your from but Thorne Bros in Blaine, MN has a great tackle making section. I know personally I like to see the products so I can accurately judge sizes and such. Not all size 8 blades are the same . I've discovered that the hard way.

Posts: 2024 | Tommy - 7/22/2015 3:08 PM Awesome, thanks for the suggestions! I'll probably go nuts and build way too many, but I feel like that's part of the fun. Very intuitive... You will, but it is fun. I get to fish on 2 to 3 trips a year and have close to 30 bucktails of all sizes, built a bunch for friends, and now will be donating some to the auctions on here if they want them.

Not true, they've been outta hollow beads (all colors) & various other components for almost a year now. Wish they'd take it as seriously as they do their fly making area.
