| I was looking to get two setups for my down rods while trolling. I'm running Shimano TDR's and 600 tekotas for my planer board setups and I am very happy with them. However, for my down rods, I want to get shorter rods and less expensive reels. Any recommendations? I was thinking 7ft rods would do the trick, but not sure on what brand and model to go with. For reels I am willing to spend up to $100 and rods up to $50.
Also side note, what line do people like for their down rods? Planer boards I use 100lb braid, but for down rods I was thinking 40lb big game. Thoughts? |

Location: pittsburgh, pa | I too run 80lb braid for everything except inlines i use 30# big game. And i only run inlines for about a month then i pull out big boards. For down rods look at ugly stik tiger medium or mediumheavy. You can beat em to death and thy hold up. Convectors are my choice for reels. I am gonna sell a few tekota 600lc but they will ve over your $100 mark. They are very lightly used for a few years as theyjust arnt my favorite reel. |

| For you guys that run braid on your down rods, how tight to you keep your drag? I would think with the no stretch you would want it looser. Typically when I run planer boards with braid I keep it fairly loose. |

Location: pittsburgh, pa | Depends on speed and lure and body of water. But 90% of the time i run a fairly loose drag. Basically if im trolling along and i pick up the rod and give it a good jerk drag comes out steady. Only time i run tighter is when i go slow or i know im fishing really big fish waters like the larry. But i also know so very very good trollers that run a rock tight drag with braid. So each there own. |
