I seem to have issues with back lashing at the drop of a hat with this reel, If I don't control it with a thumb it will back lash on me every time.
Even after I open the reel and do some adjustment it doesn't seem to help and I've found even with lighter baits, after pushing the button they fall too fast to the ground and that is even with the tension knob tightened up all the way.
I'm using 80 lb. braid with this Citrix, is that an issue?
I also have an Okuma Serrano loaded with 12 lb. Seaguar fluorocarbon and tried the very same baits. The tension bar held them steady until I loosened it and they would slowly fall to the ground. Why doesn't the Citrix do the same? what gives? Any ideas?

It's so hard to say Y your reel is back lashing, it could B so many things,
If it is new exchange it for another one.
Or send me the reel and I'll make sure it will cast without back lashing
I have that reel in the 350 size, my casts like a dream.
FYI on musky baits do not set cast controll knobs to slow down baits
Adjust the spool brakes. There are fiber washers that will dimple if you set
The cast control to tight, then the spool will be off center and cause all kinds of problems.

PikeMaster.
Appreciate the reply. Something is amiss because it seems tightening the cast control does very little to help. This reel is about a year old but it's new, considering it's never been fished with as of yet. I can throw stuff with it but I have to use complete thumb control all the way or it will backlash like crazy.
I was outside trying it out with some different weights when I noticed the problem, came in to do some adjusting on it and nothing seem to work. I may need to talk to a rep from Okuma.

Yea sounds like it has a problem
If they can't help send it to me I'll get to cast
Without back lashing

Appreciate the help. What sort of baffled me was that the same baits that wouldn't stop free falling to the floor with the Citrix didn't do that with the Serrano.
I sent an email to a rep to get their opinion on the matter. I'll see what they have to say. Otherwise if I can't resolve the issue myself, I might just send it to you to see what the deal might be.
Thanks.

Isn't there a little disc under the cap that the spool shaft spins on. Maybe it is missing. That disc takes up the space so you can put pressure to spool shaft to slow spool down. Just an idea

I did some checking and there is a small gasket that seemed to be crooked or twisted. I straightened that out and it did seem to help some. The tension does seem to tightened down more. So I went out and hooked an old key ring to my leader and threw a few. I could sling it around 45 to 50 yards without it back lashing, I'm still using my thumb to help have control but It seems to be better than before, when then it back lashed a few times like while the weight was in mid air.
I may be new at fishing for muskie, but not to using bait cast reels. I personally love em. I'll probably try a little more weight tomorrow and see how it goes. I could stand for a little more distance.
Thanks for the help.

Isn't the basic rule.

If it backlashes - in the beginning of the cast - adjust the breaks on the opposite side of the cranking handle (the palming side). Breaks in equal on, so turn more breaks on.

If it is backlashing at the end of the cast, adjust the tension knob.

What has worked for us is start with all the break on and back them off until you find what works.
We also get in the habit of backing off the tension knob & drags when we are not fishing. But even doing that, I have had to replace the fiber washers on each end of the spool shafts that Pikemaster is referring too.
