Saturday morning there I am throwing double 8's with no luck at all and my buddy switches randomly to a baby girl black and orange and BAM! 2nd cast a 41.5 incher comes up and smashes it on the 8. I haven't thrown that bait since early spring but you can bet your ass Ill be throwing it again real soon.

so a random different colored lure that a 41" fish ate has you making sweeping assumptions about it being a magic bait?

Ok

But that is the only lure that was put in that spot at that time. I truly believe that location and timing are much more important than the actual lure or colour and that any number of lures would have produced in that spot at that time. I'm really not interested in follows I'm looking for reaction strikes so I'm comfortable putting a couple of PROVEN lures on a couple of rods and I'm good for the day. I have fished my home lake for over 30 years so I know the spots, I have an idea of times or conditions, and I use proven lures and if that 45 year old kid in the back of the boat wants to use 35 lures in 28 colours he's wasting time better spent on making good casts.

I used 10's for an entire season a few years back, next year due to some tendonitis I used double 8's for an entire season.
Same waters. At the end of the year my numbers were exactly the same but the average size was +4" on the 10's.

the JR Cowgirls are Magnum 8's right? I will say I have not noticed a dropoff in size whatsoever when using those. The other 8's seem more condusive to numbers...sometimes will bag some big fish, but i have seen big fish ignore them and move behind me on bigger blades as the summer progresses fairly often

I'd agree w the 9s... some call them Mag 8s..I just call em 9s but I have had great luck w those ..I rarely throw 8s, as I just end up grabbing some 9s instead...

Not sure, I went from Cowgirls (10's) to Shumway's Flasher (8's).
Obviously there's hundreds of other factors that may have played into it, but I thought it was interesting nonetheless.

Last year on LSC I probably would have agreed about ditching the big blades because I was using double 8's catching a 50, losing a close to mid 50, a couple of 48's, a 47, a 46 & a couple of 45's all on double showgirls. When I was throwing 10's last year I wasn't even getting follows let alone strikes. This year is completely different. I'm throwing 8's in the front of the boat with only 1 follow & my buddy is in the back throwing 10's with musky all around him (some in the net) like strippers in the nudey bar swarming around a rich guy handing out $100 bills.

Haha^^

The action in the last few weeks seems to have changed, I am now seeing more fish on double 9/10s bringing them in a moderate pace then burning single blades.
