Posts: 897 | My Revo Toro 61HS seems to be dying. I'm thinking about replacing it then sending it in to Pikemaster to see if it can be salvaged. Wondering what the gold standard is now that the Toro 61HS has been discontinued? Thoughts? I primarily use it for gliders, burning small bucktails, ripping crank baits and rubber (not often for these two), and side-to-side top water.

Posts: 897 | muskyhunter47 - 6/17/2015 2:01 PM The Shimano 401 D The 401D has a 5.1:1 gear ratio. I don't consider that high speed. I'm looking for something 6:1 or better for maximum line pickup.

I really like my avet but they can be annoying when not used for a straight retrieve. I use a 301d instead for side to side type baits. Plenty of good options now a days! Good luck.

Callcutta D in 301 size, or the 401D and install the 301 gears

Posts: 897 | Any idea where a guy could get a Toro 61HS? I'd love to get another but my understanding is they were discontinued and they don't make the NACL in a 61HS?

Why not just get it serviced so it as good as new? It is amazing what a little maintenance will do for the life of a reel.

Posts: 1405 Location: Detroit River | NathanH - 6/17/2015 4:26 PMI think the 401 D picks up 27 inches I have two myself. The Okuma picks up 31 inches. The Okuma Komodo 350 specs state that it picks up 31 inches of line per crank but I tested that with the one I have (full spool of 80 LB Masterbraid) & it's more like 26 inches per crank.

Posts: 897 | achotrod - 6/18/2015 10:18 AM Go get the NACL 61 HS. They are readily available. Where? My understanding is there is no such thing as the NACL 61HS. There's a right handed version, NACL 60 HS, but no lefty version.

Posts: 897 | There's a 51HS, but not a 61HS. There's a 61 with a 5.4:1 gear ratio. I want something faster than that.

Location: varies | Perhaps you could gear up a 61 5.4? I assume it's a mirrored version of a 60. Abu could tell u if it's possible.

Posts: 390 | I bought a komodo lefty and really like it for burning bucktails...However it is almost too fast for glide baits (hard to keep enough slack in line at a normal cadence). I much prefer my 5.4:1 for gliders.

Posts: 897 | Nobody is voting for the Lexa 400 HSL. Anyone have experience with this reel as compared to the 301D or 51HS? I'm used to the speed of the 61HS on my gliders/top waters, and have a hard time keeping up with slower reels now! I'd rather have to slow down than speed up.

Posts: 1100 | greenhyena - 6/17/2015 3:20 PM Avet I love my Avet for truly burning blades and slowroling rubber, with a few pumps in the mix, but you don't want it for gliders and wtd topwaters, i would get your reel fixed, and get a 401D, and if you want change the gear to the ones from a 301.

Posts: 991 | where are the 51HS for sale? Never really saw a 61 or 51 HS for sale. I have used the komodo a couple of times now and am liking it thus far. I have buddies who use the lexa 6:3 and they have no complaints
