Posts: 1137 Location: Holly, MI | It has been cold and rainy (on and off) for 4 days including today. My brother is coming here from Pheonix and wants to fish. We might even be fishing in the rain in the am. How do I raise the musky in this condition? They have to eat right? A cold rainy day musky fishing is better than working. I would rather have gone out before the front but stuck with after. Do I have to hang up the traps and bucktails and pull some plastic? Would trolling be a waste of time? Thinking of soaking a sucker too, should it be close to the boat in case of follows or further out?

Posts: 25 | Ive managed to get follows in the rain. Never have hooked up though. Im not sure who started the stories about musky turning on in bad weather, but ive always had better luck before the rains. Then again, im pretty new to the whole musky thing. As Mike said, where do you plan on fishing? I know of a couple lakes we have hit recently where the fish have been in and on the weedlines near dropoffs. If it were me, the first place I would start is in and on the dropoffs. Any inlets from creeks/rivers/etc could be the ticket too. Id say fish slow, even in the warm weather days in the past week or so, the fish I have seen havent been tremendously active. Good luck!

Posts: 3926 | Most of the M1 regulars know better than me, but who cares here's my lame opinions.... First, I've caught them in the rain and I've caught them in the snow. Last fall I had a 3 fish day when it alternated betwen rain and snow all windy day long. Second, it's been raining for a few days so isn't the weather pattern at least somewhat stable? Third, plan to catch fish, dammit! Someone smart once wrote, "Argue your limitations, and sure enough, they're yours." Fourth, since you don't have an established pattern, decide on a couple different techniques based on the structure that will be available where you'll be fishing. Have a strategy and work your way through it until you start to move fish (hopefully). Start slow and small on obvious structure and go from there. (an example of slow and small is twitching 6" Jakes on the breaklines) Fifth, Michigan allows two lines per person, so be sure to hang a nice sucker over the side of the boat while you are both casting. All I can think of at the moment. If you choose Bankson, let me know because I've spent about 1,000 hours on that little lake.

Posts: 131 Location: Kalamazoo, MI | Hey Ranger, we should compare notes on Bankson sometime! I have no doubt we put that many hours on Bankson last year. We havent hooked up there yet this year, only moved 6 or 8 fish in 5 trips.
