Posts: 293 | So I keep hearing everyone talk about how the #8 spankys spin so much easier than the competitions blades. What's the design difference? I know that showgirls, and my homemade models can be hard to get started. I've heard people say to bend the clevis in more of a U so that it can spin more freely on the wire...does this work? Thanks, Nate

Posts: 279 Location: Central Wisconsin | Bought a few Spanky's from the expo, one of them a double 8 and I'm impressed so far, spins everytime. I too have had a lot of issues with the showgirls, despite bending the clevis to a perfect U.

Posts: 352 Location: Vilas County, WI | I asked this very question in the Musky Mayhem booth at the Milwaukee Expo. The pro-staffer guy I spoke to suggested bending the tip of the eyelet down. Said it should help flair the skirt and start the blades. Haven't tried it yet though...

Posts: 293 | When you are saying bend the tip of the eyelet are you bending the wire below the front loop at like a 45 or what?...anyone have an example?

It sounds like they're talking about doing this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBntvZpDn_E I do this with every bucktail I have, but what they are referring to is bending the eyelet only, where you connect your leader and nothing else. My babygirl came out of the box like this. I personally think bending the shaft works better than just doing the eyelet.

Funny you say this but why would Bigtooth make the video then? To keep the whole bait from spinning at all. Not to help the blades start.

Posts: 1 | MartinTD that is a great question. We only had to do this on our larger bladed bucktails last year because of the large amount of vortex from the bigger blades. On all the new 2015 Bigtooth JUICE bucktails we have a really cool built in Keel Weight that keeps the bait from rolling so now there is no need to bend any of the shafts on any of the JUICE Bucktails. -LoveTheChase Jiggy

Posts: 9 | I have tried many of the doubles out there and have my best luck with the Schlicke Musky Penetrator Bucktails. Number 8 blade size differs from one component manufacturer to another, meaning one companies 7 is the same size as another companies 8. Also, the geometry of the blade differs from one manufacturer to another. Clevises also vary between manufacturers as do wire thicknesses. Now add resistance in front of, on, and behind the blades. Most doubles are simply put, "hard to fish." Al Schlicke got all this right on his spinnerbaits. He is also one of the few competent hair tiers till out there making tied hair lures as opposed to the mass produced tinsel lures. If you don't want to wear out your arm and equipment fishing doubles, I suggest his lures.
