Hi, I'm looking to get a new net. I think I will go with a frabill. I was wondering opinions on whether I should get the Rubber or the tangle free style. What are positives/Negatives to each. Also what is an appropriate size for ski's? I think the Big Kahuna is a little bit to big for my boat. Any help would be great. Good nets are not cheap and I want to make a good purchess. Thanks for any help.

Frabill Power Catch in the coated net is my preference. The handle stays in position to deploy, the yoke is very strong, and the bag big enough to hold a world record.

Right. It is a knotless coated mesh.

The Frabill net is a great choice! I have a big Kahuna and can run the net alone using my boat rails as a guide. If you can find space in the boat go with the Kahuna.

I'm a big fan of the Beckman nets.  The magnum that I have swallows up big fish with ease.  I have the "Musky Pen" bag on mine, it's like having an "in-the-water" livewell.  The new yoke makes the deployment of the handle very easy to do even in the dark.  Another great thing about them is that they stand behind their product.

Any of the nets in the Frabill Power Catch series will give you many years of tangle free - fish friendly service...:)

I would suggest purchasing the largest net you can fit in your boat, if you have room for the Big Kahuna...go for it.

You have just revolutionized this thread. Even though I haven't used my new beckman mag finsaver pen with a fish yet, it is awesome.

Thanks for all the repies. This website is full of good, helpful people. One last question. It seems that everyone agrees on the tangle free. Is there a negative to using the rubber? Or is the tangle free simply easier to get the fish out?

I too recommend the beckman nets. Very durable and I have yet to have a lure penetrate the net. They hold BIG fish very well....Craig's not BS'ing as I netted a 50, 51, 42 and a ~35 in the same day for him last summer....heck of a live well in the water.

The only negative is when those pesky walleyes get in the bottom of the net its a bear to find them!

If there's a negative to the rubberized nets I haven't found one... maybe that they're not as flexible when you first purchase them???  They become flexible once you use them so I guess I don't really consider that a negative.

Cory mentioned netting a few fish one day - well the second of the bunch was a 50 and while I know his skills with the net are awesome, we were in some pretty serious weather / waves and the Beckman sucked her right on in.

Captain Larry mentioned once that he uses Down East Salty series rod holders; after netting the fish with this set-up, you can place the handle of the Beckman in the rodholder so you do not have to hold the net. A must if you fish alone.
