I've heard from numerous people that this kind of thing could be devastatingly bad for your engine. Usually in the context of leaving it down when going full throttle to get on plane. Is this a real issue? I've always been curious in one of these, but keep getting talked out of it.

My dad has this exact one. It is only meant for slow speeds. If you forget to pop it up you will know long before even getting close to getting on plane because you will have rooster tail out the back and you won't have much power. He has been happy with his.

it would be impossible to get going fast with this down vegas 492...... they work great for slow and super slow trolling or a controlled drift with the big motor running and will not cause any harm to your engine at all

Very interesting. I'm going to see what he local boat dealer has to say on the subject, but so far this is the most positive feedback I've ever received regarding these plates. Thanks for replying.

You will bend the plate if you really hammer on it with it down. Ive done it, no impact on the engine though, and actually trolls better for the speed i want a little bent up.

This plate for the record is not bent it's in brand new condition

These plates don't bend, that's why it's two pieces with springs, if you leave it down and hit the throttle the plate will just pivot in the middle so it doesn't get damaged...I've been running one of these for four years.
