Posts: 247 Location: Uxbridge Ontario | Just got a 60" Terrova 112 with US2, and I pilot for my Lund Predator. Want to get it installed before the weekend but with everything set up on the bow I am not sure if I should install it with or without the the detachable bracket. I watched a video with Scott Duncan installing one on his Lund without the brackets which seams to make the install very easy but this bracket on, it make positioning a crap shoot. What's the best way? Directly to the deck or with this bracket? I can't see a reason for removing my motor for any reason other than replacing or service. Edited by HomeTime 5/13/2015 5:38 AM

Posts: 410 Location: With my son on the water | If you have the bracket I would certainly use it. I have always put it on my rigs even thought I never plan on taking the TM off. But if something does happen it sure makes life easier. When I installed mine. I taped a piece of paper onto the bow of the boat, then I placed the TM (with the bracket attached to it) on top of the paper in the position I want it. I then take a magic marker and trace the perimeter of the bracket onto the paper. I then remove the TM from the bracket and place the bracket on top of the paper win the position I had traced. You can then mark the hole locations and the rest it straight forward. Note: I am right handed so I always mount the head/shaft toward the starboard side of the boat as it is just easier to deploy and retract that way. I also make sure the TM is mounted so the head is within the perimeter of the side of the boat when it is retracted. That way you don't smash it on a dock. I hope this helps, and have a great day. ![]()

Location: Eastern Ontario | Might be determined by the fit of your travel cover. I've been meaning to get my cover altered for 2 years and just haven't got around to it so I have to remove it. I have friends that want to remove it when salmon fishing. Be warned it is very heavy for putting off and on.

Posts: 462 Location: Antioch, IL | I will never mount a trolling motor without the quick release bracket again. Always good to keep your options open. - As stated above, I have to remove my Terrova so my travel cover will fit. (same with my power drive on my previous boat) - God forbid something goes wrong with the motor and needs to be serviced/replaced. Quick and easy to remove. - My buddy has the same set up. If his motor goes down he can use mine or vice versa. - Security reasons. I've seen direct mounted trolling motors stolen/cut right off the bow of a docked boat. (Can't steal it if I take it with me)

Posts: 194 Location: Lake Elmo, MN | Definitely use the bracket. The Minnkota is a terrific trolling motor BUT it's made with a lot of plastic. In about 3-4 years that plastic will start breaking on you. There are several pieces that are most prone to it......the parts right up front where the motor tilts are very breakable. You'll need to repair the motor and trust a guy who's done it recently.....you want it OFF the boat when you do repair it. Standing at the bow, with your boat on a trailer is NOT a way to fix this motor. You'll need it off. I have never once had a trolling motor that at some point, did not need repair. use the quick disconnect. You'll be glad you did. Edited by PSAGuy 5/13/2015 8:24 AM

Posts: 1209 | I'd use the bracket. And go to port side so you have a clearer view of the lake. And docks. I have my terrova paddle locked just randomly check the set screw to make sure it's tight. I used a sliding MK plate I think it was made for older motors. And install had to be Easter with the bracket. I put the motor on the bracket and held on the boat made a couple marks. Took the motor and attached bracket off the other half. And mounted the plate to the boat rather than the heavy motor perched up front

Posts: 247 Location: Uxbridge Ontario | Thanks for your insight guys. Installed it today with the bracket. Only thing I don't really like is the amount of play between the bracket and the plate. Even with the screw knob cranked on there seems to be more than a little play and the hole unit seems rattle a bit. May drill and tap another screw location to lock it in snugger
