Posts: 228 | Lots of rain coming today and this week at Kinkaid. Any ideas as to what this will do to the fish? Where would the clearest water on the lake be after these rains? Thanks, Bob

Posts: 688 Location: Northern IL | If the rain changes the color (feeder creeks, run off etc,) the fishing will get tougher till things settle out. Add in most of the fish are probably in recovery mode for a couple of weeks. The clearest water in any reservoir will always be moving towards the dam. Good luck

Posts: 228 | Just got back from there. I would not go there right now! Water is like chocolate milk. Fish are NOT biting!!! Spawn just about done according to the DNR. Even more rain predicted for tomorrow! Crazy weather!!! Bob

Posts: 44 | Thanks for the insight Bob. We are going next week Wends-Sat so hopefully the water will clear up some by the time we get there. This time of year its all about spending quality time with my Dad and pitching Musky baits. Good to hear about them being almost done spawning, perhaps some will be recovered and be hungry. I am figuring targeting shallow water and bright baits……rattle traps and slow moving gliders. Did you get a water temp by chance??? Anything else you notice that might be helpful?

Posts: 228 | The water temps varied by parts of the lake from 52 to a little over 60. The DNR had nets out to ck if the fish were done spawning. They had 19 Muskies in 1 net. There also was an 18 inch Crappie that weighed 3.5 lbs in there. They said the spawn was just about over. Bob

Posts: 149 | If you like BBQ at all, you should eat at 17th Street Bar and Grill in Murphysboro. They've won the prestigious Memphis In May World Championship multiple (3?) times. They've added 3-4 new locations, but the original (and best) is in Murphysboro. It's behind Dairy Queen.......on 17th Street.

Posts: 31 Location: Southern Illinois | Americas Best Value Inn is a popular choice for places to stay. Has good parking and electricity. Nice people. I've stayed several time and never had an issue. As far as places to eat. For pizza my absolute favorite is Quatros Pizza in Carbondale, for BBQ can't beat seventeenth street or Pats, for Fish on Friday nights Midland Inn is hard to beat located on old rt 13 between Carbondale and Murphysboro. I haven't eaten there but I've heard Sergio's Mexican next to ABV is good. Cindy Bs is also quick and good for breakfast. Hope this helps! Ed

Posts: 553 Location: 15 miles east of Lake Kinkaid | Water clarity is about 1' on the main lake. The whole being muddy thing this spring is getting old. Fishing has been subpar to say the least.
