buying a new reel for a new rod, rods an 8' heavy tooth tamer, using mostly for bucks, topwater, already have an abu record mod 60, and love it want to get another record, was leaning towards the 6600, with 5.3 ratio (26" per turn) but wondering if I should go to the 6600 hc which is a 4.7 (23" per turn) based upon my recent perusing of commentary im not sure which anymore, opinions please?

if you are looking for something around 23 inches per turn I would highly recommend the diawa luna. every bit as durable as the calcutta b but alot smoother.

I like a lower ratio for topwater, like the revo toro winch. For Bucktails , like a 5:4 - 6:1 ratio.

The toro winch is ok for Bucktails, you will just have to crank faster if you need some speed.

You have a tough choice. Guess a 5:1 ratio like the Calcutta 400b is a happy medium:)

there is a reason why the luna made a big splash and then died on the vine ... anti-reverse is a weak design, not in the same ballpark as a calcutta b

but, if you are looking for a bucktail reel, you should consider speed and get a poor-man's tranx = Daiwa Saltist

What kind of bucktails? Huge difference in your needs between a single blade Indiana and a double ten.

Personally I prefer a reel with a faster retrieve for buck tails & a slower one for top water. I have both the Record & Luna. I loved the casting distance of the Record but it didn't hold up very good. I've used my Luna for 5 season now & not one issue with it.

My Luna is mainly used for jigging Bondy Baits as well as sturgeon & I'm surprised that one other poster said the Luna has a weak anti-reverse & that the Calcutta B had a better anti-reverse. My buddy blew out the anti-reverse on his Calcutta B jigging Bondys & I've never had an issue with my Luna.

There are a lot of good reel choices out there, but if you are comfortable with the Records, and want to get another... go for it. The 3" difference in the retrieve between the 2 6600's you've mentioned isn't much. The 5.3:1 ratio is considered pretty good for all around use, but if you want a little more torque (and don't mind reeling a little faster at times), go with the 4.7:1 HC. Either should work fine for what you want to do. Good luck.
