Here's an update on the redfin pickerel. He has just about doubled in size and sports a bit of a belly now. He normally takes down 2 - 3 feeder guppies per day. Here are some photos.

Here are some recent pictures of our Redfin Pickerel. He was about 2.5 to 3 inches and thin when we got him a few months ago. He has grown to about 5 inches. He has been conditioned to the point that if he sees the red cup coming, he knows there is food on the way. His fins all start vibrating and he moves to the top of the tank to wait for his meal, which doesn't last long at all. No heaters and a well planted tank. He appears happy and healthy.

Here is a couple more pictures of our Redfin eating a minnow. The look of terror on the minnow's face says it all!

OP how are the muskies in the pond doing? Have you seen them since putting them in there?

KenK thanks for sharing the pictures. That's awesome! It looks like it t-boned the minnow. Does it always do that?

Most of the time, it is a t-bone. Also, he normally will t-bone, turn it and swallow head first, but not always. That one in the picture was t-boned and then swallowed tail first. Actually my daughter took a movie and saved some frames. Made for some cool stills. Sometimes it happens so fast, you have no idea what happened!

Did you catch it or order it from somewhere? I am looking to start a setup like this.

We bought him on the internet, AquaBid.com. They probably won't have any in stock until next season.

My friend bought three to put in a 125 gallon fish tank and man were they fun to watch! Minnows didn't stand a chance! They were about 5 inches when he got them, about a year and a half later 12 in or a little better when he took them out to put in a pond.

2 posts above the guy quoted Al Franken at the end.... What a fool. How about this quote of Mr. Franken "Right now, money is being stolen, and that is killing our soldiers. That makes me furious. I'm very sad about where my country is going, and I love my country.".. This from a guy who was directly involved in the Gloria Wise boys and girls club scandal. Which diverted $875,000 to the liberal radio network he is associated with. What a fool... Thank you Minnesota liberals. That money was stolen from Minnesotans inner city school children to pay his and others salaries.

What does this even have to do with this very cool post?

Here is a short clip of the Redfin Pickerel eating a minnow. Disregard the audio, just me talking to my boys.

That has been Ken's tag line forever. It's not political. Thanks for bringing your angry political bend into this discussion.

I think it is great advice! It was actually his Stuart Smalley character that said it. It works great for a forum with so many opposing views of the same thing! Two opposing view points, just ignore them both, problem solved.

Bad news! Our Redfin Pickerel expired today. He was jumping in the tank the other night and my boys said that he had hit the cover pretty hard. He must have damaged his swim bladder or some other internal organs. He regurgitated his last meal and was having difficulty staying upright. My son even stayed home from school to try to revive him in a bucket with an aerator running on high and holding him upright, but to no avail. He is gone!

We may get another baby once they are in season again. It was a great experience. My boys already have a couple little blue gills in the tank. Just watched them take down some red worms.
