I'm interested in hearing comparisons of the 2, or I guess 3 if you include the 10" Headlock, Supernatural baits. For those who have had the opportunity to fish the different baits, have you found one to be more effective overall and have you found one to be more effective in warmer water vs cold water? If you could only have one, which would you choose? Thanks guys

HeadLocks are about the most erratic thing you can put in the water. They work best in the warmer months of summer and into the fall. In general, they work better in the 3-5mph range as this is where they are the most erratic.

MattLocks are bigger and a little more subtle in action and begin their wobble at a slower speed (like around 2.1mph) which makes them better for the cooler periods of the year. Generally MattLocks do best here in Minnesota right away in June and then again late into the season when the water is cold (like below 42F) and the fish are more apt to nip at the back of the bait instead of crush it by the head.

Also the 10" and 12" HeadLocks are like the 8" and 10" Jakes--same body (just 2" shorter), same lip, totally different action, totally different dive curve. The shorter body tightens up the action just a little bit and the baits dive just a bit deeper than the bigger baits.

There is a nice write up of each bait on bigwood tackle website.

Anyone out there that's casting the 10" headlocks effectively? If so how deep do they run on a cast?

Thanks,
Nate

How about a little help on the diving curve of the 10" Headlocks.
I heard its the 3 to 1 ratio. Line 3 feet out for 1 foot down.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks, Tom

Headlocks 10”
3mph front hole
30’ of line = 10’ down
45’ of line = 15’ down
Add 4’ for each hole back and a max diving depth of 24’ on the back hole.
