Posts: 151 Location: Chippewa Falls, WI | I'll try to keep this short and to the point. I've changed my setups going into this year and I'm trying to figure out a way to keep it down to three good setups. Last year I had 5 total setups . 7'6" mh mojo with a 6500c3 on it (truly a spare rod but good for small early season stuff) 7'6" TI XXH with NACL 50 HS for jerks and WTD's 8' TI with winch on it for slow rolling or slow moving top water 9' TI XH with NACL 60 HS for cranks, surface, and blades 9' TI XXH with TRANX HG for rubber and big minnow baits. I bought a 7'6" LT jerk and the 8'6" sling blade and I'll move my NACL 50 HS to the JERK, and I'm going to buy a NACL 60 5.4 for slingblade (I just didn't care for weight and size of the TRANX, I thought about the PG for the slingblade but they just aren't for me) I'll move the NACL 60 HS to my 9" TI XXH for rubber and big minnows to replace the HG that I sold. My question is what to do the the WINCH?? It's good for making big blades feel like a hot knife through butter but the line pick up is just too slow for me. I lost a fish last year on a hawg wobbler because I couldn't keep the line tight, as the fish swam towards the boat. I'm wondering if I just pay to have the gears switched out to 5.4 and not buy the nacl 5.4 or upgrade to a different power handle on the winch, or just sell it and use the money to offset the cost of the NACL 5.4? My plan is to sell all my other setups and keep the JERK, Slingblade, and 9' XXH TI and just use those three setups. Just not sure what to do the the WINCH, switch the gears or keep it as is. Thanks for any advice, but if your going to say, buy a TRANX its the best reel ever, etc, etc, etc...save your time. I'm not going to buy another TRANX, they are great reels and a lot of people love them, I'm simply not one those people.

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | So the real question is to sell the winch and put the money towards a new Nacl 5.4, or change the winch to 5.4 gears? With everything you're selling, it looks like you are money ahead. I think if it were me I'd sell the Winch for whatever you can, and get a new reel. You've got some nice rods, might as well put a new, fresh reel on them if you can afford it. I really like the power handle on the NACL. Better than the old style Toros had. The handle alone would be worth upgrading for me, and by the time you buy new gears and a new handle, you've probably already spent the difference between selling the Winch and buying a new one. If you are losing fish with the Winch because it's hard to keep the line tight while fighting fish, then I'd say it will have no practical use for you unless you change the gears or change the reel. Posts: 633 Location: Madison, WI | I just replaced the gears in my winch to the 5.4. $48 from Abu if I remember correctly. I have one 5.4 NACL and love it so turning my winch into basically the same reel for $50 was a no brainer. Can't wait to try it out!

Posts: 425 | Aaron, you have two solutions : A) sell your winch and then buy a new Nacl 60 ( 5.4.1 ratio ) B) replaced the gears in your winch to the 5.4.1 I suggest you to replace the gear in your winch. Then if you will not be satisfied, reinstall the original gear in your winch, sell the winch, sell the gear 5.4. and buy a 5.4 nacl 60 or the all new Abu reel that will be ready this summer (so they say) that will be the challenger of the Shimano Tranx and of the Daiwa Lexa 400. esoxone

Posts: 1283 | The new Abu wont be ready this summer. It will be introduced at ICast in Sept and out for 2016. I would change out your gears in the 60 HS to 5.4 gears you dont need 2 HS NACLs. There are times when I wish I had a slow rolling reel like winch. Its not as easy as it seems to slow down as it seems.
