One must now travel to the nearest U.S. Coast Guard REC Office,for fingerprinting and varification of personal identification.This is by appointment only and the nearest REC Office for me is in Toledo,Ohio,six hour drive each way.
The time for proccessing a Charter Captians Masters License could take up to six months with the new stricter security.So those that have renewals due this year should start the application proccess at least six months before your current License expires or you may get caught having no license to operate for a period of time.
On border waters between Canada and the U.S.A.,Merchant Marine Officers have been asked to be a Pair of Eyes on the Water,reporting incidents to the U.S. Coast Guard.
