Ok. Lookin to built a box out of wood. Just for something to do. What kind of sealant or finish could I use that wont destroy rubber baits. Any help will be great.
Thanks

Wood box would be too heavy for my liking.

To answer your question I would use a spar varnish which can be purchased about anywhere. I would read the label and see what thinner they recommend for the product. I would start with the first coat thinned out even as much as 50/50. This thinned mixture will allow it to penetrate into to the wood. You will put on several more coats of varnish backing off on the thinner each time until you are at full strength. Then the last 2 or 3 coats should be full strength. Make sure you allow plenty of drying time in-between each coat.

Last when you are all done, it needs to sit a while to gas off. It will be dry to the touch but not cured.

The other option would be to apply a 2 part epoxy mix which is kind of pain and harder to mix, cost more, has a working time limit. Very good epoxys can be found at Wicks Aircraft supply store on-line. I have an epoxy pump dispenser that dispenses the proper amount of hardener and resin that I bought a long time ago from Wicks for like $40. It is really slick as you don't have to measure, just pump the hande and the proper amount of hardener and base comes out in small quantites. If you need more just keep pumping.

With this too you need to let it gas off but it will work.

I hope this helps and have a good weekend

I would stain it and the Spar varnish it. I don't cannot speak to thinning it. I do know for my house I stained some oak and did a few coats of spar varnish and use it as a door threshold and its wet and out side and it looks great going on 9 years now.
