Location: oswego, il | Are we talking say accumulated the most points over the 16 years or an average per tournament fished? For total points over the 16 years I would guess Kevin Nash.

Ross is kick arse for sure.... and Kevin Nash is one Heck of a competer, but there are a few others that have done really well over the years.....Jason summers, The Burseth Bro's ... Tony grant made most of the Championships... Steve Genson.....
Someone should break this down for the Top Ten in the last 16 years.......
Where is Olson and Hamm this Year ?????

| I took a look at the top finishes, had to apply a points sytem to the top 5 positions (to save time and some effort); I came up with this unofficial points analysis: (for easy of number crunching I just kept the first name listed, as some partners change over the years - no offense intended...this is unofficial, but gives an idea of the top ten over the years.)
1. Greg Thomas and partner (mostly Dave)
2. Jason Summers and partner (Dumars & Bilbry for the most part)
3. Tom Olson and partner (he has had a few)
4. Kevin Nash and partner (has had a few)
5t. James Rieter and partner (has had a couple)
5t. Mark Lajewski and Partner (a couple)
6. Ross Korpela and partner (John Adkins and Chad Mitchell-Peterson)
7t. Burseth Bros
7t. Kirk Allen and partner
8. Tony Grant and Partner
9. Spencer Berman and partner

Location: St Paul, Minnesota | It's great seeing a lot of the guys mentioned on the list at the Musky Expos where they're eager and willing to talk and interact with anyone. I think a lot of those guys don't get enough credit for the level of devotion to their sport (where there isn't Bass-money to be made) and for beign the road warriors that they are. Support your musky guides and at the expos the new lures/product are great but more often than not knowledge will catch more fish so talk to these guys! |

Only a hand full have been fishing the PMTT since the beginning.. Tony Grant is the only one that I know of..
There should be some way to get an accurate account for ranking these Guys.

Best wsy would be total points scored in event/events entered, this would give you the person/team with the highest point avg per event entered, would need minimum number of events entered. Also need to throw out lake specialist that only fish home lakes, some great sticks fish just home water and woudl have high ranking. So would need to be trail team or fish minimum number of different bodies.
Cannot use total fish cus one year the bite might be good on a body of water, and tought next doesn't properly account for the bite. Also size changed on Eagle would great change past events on that body.
The key is winning a event vs placing in multiple events, biggest is winning the championship! Team of Year on heck of an accomplishment, and Hammernick.Sennet hit the jackpot last year.
It is a great tour and plenty to be learned out there, and great group of guys to fish with, and all the above are great sticks. It would be and interesting data.

I agree with this. Total points doesn't tell as much as placing high consistently. |

Location: Watertown, MN | Yes I agree Larry, that is why I stated you would need to somehow qualify it by taking out anglers that mostly fish places like eagle lake, mdaison and other numbers lake, and also need fish minimum number of events and different lakes. Yes Top Gun does this for the year, but to get all time list need a diffent metric. What we need is a stats major here. Placing high consistency is possible, could go 10 pts for first, and down, then would need to divide pts by events entered. But what about guys that caught fish that didnt get a top 10, and finished 18th becuase they caught a 35 instead of a 38, is there that big of a difference in skill level? Muskie ranking is difficult task, remember several years ago there was going to some list put together.

Location: Otsego, MN | I went on the PMTT website to attempt to gather this data but the issue is not all data is available. I would be willing to summarize if someone has all of the data in excel. The older years only stated the winners and not all fish caught and they don't publicize who entered and fished so it would only be possible to look at who has won or placed the most and have no idea of who has the highest efficiency. |

I think this is a valid point.... but, we have to have some sort of rating system, right?
For example see the two following tournament scenarios:
1) Angler A raises 7-10 fish, with some in the upper 40's. Due to circumstance (equipment failure, bad net job, etc..) they are unable to put any in the boat.
2) Angler B raises (and catches) 1 fish. 35''.
IMO angler A has proven a higher skill level. Pretty tough to award placing in a tournament this way though. |

In theory "luck", which is basically what you've drawn attention to, should work itself out over the course of a few tournaments. On a short scale though, like you've said, it is very tough to determine good metrics. |
