As of a week ago there was no open water visible from the ramp. Don't think it has gotten above freezing much if any since then so I am sure that it is probably still locked up. They have quite a bit of snow and ice on the ground right now but the forecast is definitely looking better.

I Called a Local Guide down there a 2 days ago, he said there is about 5" of ice and froze tight as far as the eye can see from the Marina Launch, I assume Paul Ice is not any better, I planned on heading down yesterday, but change our trip and Heading down to Melton Hill TN this afternoon

Who did you call? I'd like a good way to check the ice for this weekend. Looks like 50 degree days for the next week or so.

The person who posted on facebook said 5 inches but I saw pics from yesterday at 3pm and there was some open water so who knows. From everything I have heard they are not to worried about it being open for this weekends IMTT tourney.

It will be open by Saturday for sure. My guess is Wednesday the ice will be gone on the main lake, but a few coves will not thaw until Thursday.

Paul ice was iced as of 5pm today. I've extended past the marina breakwall. About half of the area visible from the dam levee was frozen as well.

I'm heading down in a little bit. I'll give you an update soon. It's 65 and sunny right now so I'm sure the remaining ice is going quick

Main lake is open, all of the coves that get direct sunlight are open. I think everything on the south end of the lake will be thawed by tomorrow evening.

Should be completely open by the end of the day tomorrow. Quite a few boats out today with the big rods. Didn't talk to anyone but did hear one gentleman shouting a few obscenities about a hundred years away, presumably after missing a fish.

Well that was pretty rough fishing. Anybody see any big fish at least? What was the big fish? We ended up just leaving right at 2 on sunday. I would assume the 33" won the tourney. Lammmemeee

Three fish caught with 33 being the biggest. Several people reported loosing fish that were bigger. We saw one fish all weekend. Kinkaid has been hard on me the last several years but this past weekend was as tough as I have ever seen it. What do you expect when you take a sight feeders eyes away!!! The good new is it seemed like it was clearing up by the hour at the end of the tourney. I would think with this weeks steady temps and clearing water later this week and this coming weekend should probably be good if you are heading that way.

I've camped there in March before...sites are pretty rustic. Talk to "Junior" at the mobile home by the RV's and he will set you up. He let us charge our batteries at the dock even though the marina wasn't open. Good luck!

FYI- You can camp on the state land as well= no fee:)

Thanks Matt. I'll be sleeping in my expedition, I wasn't sure I'd I could just set up on the point since I wouldn't have a tent etc.

I had a follow early in the day and massive hit on a spinner that I never got the hooks into. I saw temps up to 54 on the north end but it was chocolate milk. Glad you got something Herpin as I didnt see anyone catching much. All the fish I saw were on a quad blade spinnerbait around points with weeds.

Add another 35" to the tally. Raised another half dozen and lost another small one. Got a small high 20's last night too. All my fish came from the warmest and clearest water we could find. Didn't raise a single fish on spinners! Fish either wanted a really slow retrieve with long pauses or burning baits.
