Subject: fun with electricity

in an effort to get my boat to fit in my too-small garage, i needed to lower the motor. this required hooking up the battery to run the power tilt/trim. as i connected the main positive lead to the battery (negative was already connected), something in the motor hummed, went "pop", and then pumped out about 5 seconds worth of light gray smoke. needless to say, this was NOT the result i was hoping for the first time i connected power to my recent investment.

any thought on what that might have been???

on a side note, after waving the smoke off, the power t/t worked fine cranking the motor down and i managed to angle-cram her into my garage where she won't get beat up by tonight and tomorrow's thunderstorms. i guess the wife's car will just have to suffer outside...
